Which USB dongle do i get ?

Hi,

 

I have just been looking at USB dongles online in order to connect my PC wirelessly. There are so many and i do not have a clue. Some say 150Mbps some 300Mbps.

I dont know what relevence this has. Does it matter which one i get? What differemce would one make over the other ? Whats the difference between ones with an antenna and ones without ? :confused:

 

Any advice appreciated.

Some say 150Mbps some 300Mbps.

This is related to the data transfer rate.

You may think that getting the 300 Mb/s would be the obvious option - but unless your router can cope with that sort of speed then there is no advantage.

These are also optimum speeds and you are likely to get nothing like the implied 150 or 300 Mb/s

 

Whats the difference between ones with an antenna and ones without ?

The idea of having an external antenna is supposed to increase reception.

 

There is another option ( just to add to the confusion )

You can get a PCIe version.

This is fitted internally into a PCIe slot on your motherboard.

( this assumes that you have the appropriate slot on the m/board )

So either way, it would make no difference to performance which ever one i get, assuming my router has low data transfer speeds.

If you can tell us which make and model and possibly how old your router is, we can maybe be able to say which may be best, however after that it depends on your internet connection speed, because if that is low, it won't make any real difference any way.
