Hi,

I have recently bought a Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I am having trouble with the BBC Iplayer. The problem is that when I tap it I am informed that there is no wireless connection but this is not correct as i can surf the net without trouble and when I check the connection I am told that is OK. It may be relevant to say that recently the Iplayer did work.

Dear Peter,

First of all welcome to FPCH.

As far as I know this kind of apps need to have a very very good WiFi signal otherwise they won't run. I have a similar app but in Portugal and it has also many incompatibility issues with several devices and lots of problems with WiFi signals.

You will find these apps have several negative reviews reporting the app simply doesn't work on their devices https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bbc.iplayer.android&hl=en so I am pretty much sure you can blame a lot the developers :p

Anyway I think your device is fully compatible: http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/mobile_tablet/android_downloads_device so I would focus in the WiFi issue.

mh2,

Thank you for your reply. I moved the kindle nearer to the router and bbc iplayer worked well. However, what I would like to do is to be able to use the iplayer on the kindle downstairs, further from the router which is upstairs near my desktop. Do you have any suggestions about how I might accomplish this.

Hi Peter I'd take a look at wireless range extenders or boosters designed to give your signal a boost one like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/netgear-wifi-range-booster-for-mobile-devices-661733 would do the job others are also available and the other guys may have other ideas.
