SimonF Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Under XP I used to do a very simple back-up. I would copy "My Documents" to an external hard drive and then rename the folder with the date. In this manner I would keep several folders and delete the older ones. As long as the folders had different names there was no problem. Now with W7 if I try to do this it starts challenging me over file names as obviously the folders have files with the same names therein. Is there any way I can stop it doing this really irritating thing please? Thanks for any thoughts SimonF Quote

SimonF Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Hi Ken Thanks for the response and yes, it helps as I guess this is the proper way to do it! I suppose being a tad set in my ways it irritates me that the simple "copy" method doesn't work any more owing to (presumably) an "improvement". Thanks again Simon Quote

Plastic Nev Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Very interesting, the most useful is post number eight on the page linked to from "Mountain Bob". A bit long winded but does explain the reason for the problem and at the end gives a good work round for it. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
