To my dismay and surprise I'm finding that whenever I download an image such as a clipart to my picture file it has shading along the right and bottom edges which gives a sort of 3D effect. I've attempted to remove them by cropping in Elements but they still remain.

With my limited ability, this issue is driving me to distraction and I'll be very grateful if somebody can help me.

Thanks :)

Hi Woodworker.

Some programs will display a border. Windows Live Photo Gallery is one such program. The picture itself does not have a border it's just the program that opens the picture that adds a border to the display. If you open the picture in a different program that doesn't display borders you should see it display correctly. What picture viewer are you using?

Thank you very much,

I have long been in the habit of right clicking on the image and saving it to my Windows picture file. Only during the last few days have the borders begun to appear and you've caused me to wonder if this is due to a Windows update.

I use clipart to embellish e-mails and the borders also remain when I import them into Windows Live Mail. I did carry out a system restore but this hasn't resolved the problem.

I tried inserting an image into this message but the borders didn't appear.

Regards, David

Hi Woodworker, lets see if it is some part of your Windows or something else. From your description you are seeing what can be called a drop shadow.

First open your version of elements, then find a clipart image on Google and drag and drop the image straight into elements. Does it have the drop shadow at that point?.

Just so we can see the shadow to be sure that is what we are meaning, Windows 7 has a screen shot snipping tool which you can use to select the area round a picture. Save the whole image and show us that.

Snipping tool, if never used before is in "All Programs", then open "Accessories"

Which version of Elements do you have by the way as I have both 8 and 11.

Nev.

Thanks Plastic Man, Very strange that I can add an image displaying borders from my Picture File to here without borders showing but the same image opened in WLM will do. However, when I add an image to WLM using copy and paste from the net no borders show.

I am familiar with the Snipping Tool but am unable to open an image from it here. I guess it is Windows adding the borders and I'll just have to copy and paste into e-mails direct from the net.

The same image opened in Elements.8 from a file will display borders but an image from the clipboard won't.
