berniel Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Got the new laptop the other day and I've spent a little while setting it up. However (isn;t there ALWAYS a 'however;?), no matter what I try, I can't get rid of a bing search option in the address bar. I don't (ever) use bing, WILL never use bing, and I don't want it catching my eye all the time, either! It's the only entry in the search options for add-ons and the 'remove' button is faded out. The best I've been able to do is 'disable' it. Any ideas? Quote
KenB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Got the new laptop the other day Which Operating System are you using ? You could try Revo Uninstaller from here - click here ( you want the FREE version ) Install and run it. It will find all installed applications. If Bing is located - simply click on it and select "Delete" button from the toolbar at the top. If this doesn't do it - get back to us with your OS. berniel Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Hi KenB Thanks for the reply. Tried it, but bing doesn't appear! I'm on XP Pro Quote
KenB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Click Start, and then click Run. Type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER. In the Currently installed programs list, click Bing Bar, and then click Remove. Follow the on-screen instructions. This should do it :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
berniel Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Bing bar isn't there either! Think I'll just put a bit of masking tape over that part of the screen!! Quote
KenB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Got the new laptop the other day With XP Pro ?? Surely not ? or is it just new to you :) I assume you are using Internet Explorer ? Do you have a Home Page set ? Open IE > Tools > Internet Options It will say there. Mine is http://www.google.co.uk/ Set this - then check again to see if "Remove" is still greyed out. You could try Resetting IE Open IE > Tools > Advanced > Reset Note - this will set IE to default settings and you will probably need to go through the set-up procedure again. The "Remove" button should be accessible now - hopefully :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! berniel Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Yes, new to me. Yes, I am using IE. I set my home page to yahoo.co.uk (can't remember what it was before). I'll try resetting IE - might get some interesting results! Quote
berniel Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Cracked it! Long story short: bing was the ONLY search provider listed, so I added Google from the very helpful(!!) Windows catalog and reset that as my default. Happy now. Thanks for your help! Quote
KenB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Happy now. Thanks for your help!
