Vostro 3750 laptop screen no display - But works on external display - Please help

Dear,

I have a Vostro 3750 laptop which is 2 years old.

It got some flickering flashes on the screen last time but it disappeared after some time.

But on next reboot again I got that same flickering flashes but in between I was able to see the screen contents.

But after few minutes it become full plain white and could not see any contents any more.

When I connect it to an external display it works and I could see the contents.

But the laptop screen does not works any more.

Any suggestions What could be the common problem ?

Could it be some loose contacts in the screen connections or should I replace the screen

or could it be a major motherboard issue ?

If this is the case then the "video card" would seem to be OK.

Yes it could.

There is a very small, flat cable that runs from the motherboard to the screen. This could have come loose ( you would get no picture at all if this was the case ) or it could have a brake in it that moves when the machine is heated up. The cable runs through the hinge and this is sometimes a cause of the cable fraying.

 

If it isn't the cable then it could well be the screen itself.

It is possible to pick up a replacement screen ( about $65 ) on eBay

 

Now for the really bad news.

Laptops are really difficult to work on. You may wish to entrust this work to a repair technician.

If you are going to do this get a quote for the two jobs first.

It may be that a replacement laptop is a better option and run this one off the monitor as you are at the moment.

Hi, further to KenB's advice, we do not normally tell anyone to do repair work on laptops due to the complex dismantling required, which without the right knowledge can easily result in something breaking.

However, if you have prior knowledge of complex dismantling and re-assembly and are prepared to risk it, Dell do provide a manual with full instructions in it.

I have had a look myself, and although it does mean a quite large amount of work, it doesn't seem too difficult to be able to access and replace the cables or complete screen.

If however you are unsure at all about doing this work, we do recommend taking it to a reputable repairer.
