Austin Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Recently In 3 separate occasions i have tried to connect 3 pieces of hardware to my laptop, a midi keyboard, a children's Ereader toy and an audio recorder which has been previously installed on that computer and in every case a message has come up saying drivers not installed. I have tried disabling my norton and also going to the manufacturer websites but nothing worked. I contacted PC world and they suggested a full wipe and restore of factory settings. I did this but am still getting the same message. Does anyone know what might be blocking the installation of these drivers and how I might resolve it. My laptop is a Samsung btw. Many thanks .. KenB Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS I contacted PC world and they suggested a full wipe and restore of factory settings. This should ALWAYS be a last resort ......... after all other options have been tried. a message has come up saying drivers not installed. Take a look at Device Manager - you are looking for yellow exclamation marks or red Xs. Start .....type in .....devmgmt.msc ..... hit ENTER. Click the > next to each device. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? Hi, yes these devices are all USB ones, under the USB section of the area you mention there is a "USB composite device" there is an exclamation mark. I have tried clicking on it and trying to update the driver, search online etc but it never works. It would be ok if it was just one device but its 3 that all connect by USB and I have the same issue with all 3. Thanks for your help Austin Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Hi, for the MIDI keyboard, did you get a drivers disk with it? If so have you tried re-installing from the disk? now wondering if there may be some corruption within Windows, for most of those other devices you mention, Windows should have been able to load its own generic drivers. Till Ken gets back, it won't hurt to try a system file check. Click start, then in the search box type, cmd.exe you should then see cmd.exe appear at the top, do not ordinary left click on it, you must first right click, then in the menu choose "Run as administrator" A black window appears with the cursor flashing, just type, sfc /scannow (Note the space between sfc and the / ) Then press the enter key, it will then scan the system files and attempt to repair any damaged files. It may report there are files it cannot repair, try at least another three runs as sometimes it can repair them the second or third time. If damaged files are reported, and will not repair them please let us know. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Austin Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Thx for your help. I tried running the sfc thing but it won't let me saying I must be an administrator to running a console session to use the sfc utility, would you happen to know how I do this Thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Hi, are you logged in to the laptop as an administrator or just as a normal user? are there other user accounts on the laptop? Did you right click on the cmd.exe and choose "Run as administrator" as I asked above? Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here.
