I have lost my quick launch on the taskbar like in Vista, I had it and I had to refresh my pc now it is gone. I have tried the right click taskbar and toolbar -new toolbar and there is no quick launch there. I did the hidden items and it is not there either, can any one help with this . I suppose everything I do is centered around how easy Vista was. Thanks in advance

Hi jimmy.

I'm on Windows 7 but it should be the same in Windows 8.

Right click the taskbar.

Select Toolbars>New Toolbar.

In the Folder box paste C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Replace User Name with your user name.

Click Select Folder.

That should put it back but you will need to unlock the taskbar to move it. Then you can customize it by icon size, text or no text and if need be drag shortcuts into it again.

Thanks to all it is almost like as in Vista , I have the quick launch back but not the little arrows you click to open quick launch and when I unlock the taskbar I have a dotted line to the far left on the taskbar that does nothing. I also cant find the desktop icon to put on the quick launch.

What I am going for is like in Vista, I only had a few icons on the desktop they were in quick launch and I would click on the little sideways arrows to open a page.

There are two sets of dotted lines when the taskbar is unlocked. They are used to define the size of quick launch and allow you to drag it to the left or right of the taskbar.

When the taskbar is locked the lines dissapear. The arrows simply expand the quick launch to show you items inside if the size is too small.

To recreate the show desktop shortcut you will need to right click on the desktop and select new>shortcut. In the folder box type one of these;

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk"

or

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C "C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk"

Then give it a name, select an icon and drag it into quick launch.

I found a couple good articles with pictures that might help you.
