mrmadness Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Hello kind people, The demon spawn within my laptop is awaken again, plotting how to ruin my gaming experience. So I beg you again, wise online exorcists, free me from this nightmare, and send the demon back to it's slumber. Intel Driver Accelerator has just recovered from crash ( not exact words ) but this bubble on top of task bar warned me that the danger is close. The bubble is not the problem, as it is just messenger, the problem is, that everytime the driver crashes, the screen starts flickering, going full white, then black, before it restarts the ?driver?, at first it took just few seconds for it to do it, but then it started taking it's time. It started 1 week ago, and now when the screen starts flickering, it does not come back, it will just stay black, or w/e color was on the screen when IT happened until you restart your system. I think the system is responding while the screen is getting ****ed by the demon, becaus I have managed to turn off the laptop properly without holding powerbutton, just by pressing it. never again will i do such a thing, because, upon powering on my machine, the screen was just blue, no bios boot, no ASUS logo before windows, just blue, and fickering and then it went black, had to reset it atleast 3 times before it started working. In safe mode the demon does not bug me, alhough the screen sometimes does go full white/w/e color is on display, it resets quickly and fast enough to avoid me to panic. It also does that eveytime the windows log in to the user in safe mode. It happened after I installed the newest IntelHD drivers from their website.. how stupid of me, if it's not broken don't fix it... dooh.. What I HAVE tried -> Uninstalling the IntelHD driver Installing different driver from Intel website Installing drivers from the ASUS website ( they have not updated them since 2011) Changed my theme so it looks like im from the 90s and reduced the screen brightness to the minimum ( it does seem to help, or maybe I'm imagining it) My laptop - > ASUS N55Sf The Nvidia card is broken, yello triangle in the device manager, so i've disabled it Quote
KenB Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Hi, It happened after I installed the newest IntelHD drivers from their website.. Try a system restore to a date when all was well. Start > type in ....system restore ....ENTER Follow the prompts. =============== I assume that the drivers you downloaded are these ? - click here [ under VGA ] The yellow triangle indicates that there is something wrong with the installed drivers. Are you sure that your on-board graphics is Nvidea and not the Intel ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mrmadness Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Yes, thoes are the drivers. Got to crash only about twice a day now, if I don't put in high performance battery settings, and have win95 theme. Intel is onboard and Nvidia is dedicated, are you sure that the yellow triangle is with software, because i first got that triangle right after laptop hit the floor. Quote
KenB Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 after laptop hit the floor. This is obviously not going to do the machine a lot of good :) There may well be something internal that has been dislodged. are you sure that the yellow triangle is with software, Software is the usual cause - but it could be hardware related. If you go to Device Manager > right click on the device > Properties Under the General Tab ( where it says "Device Status" ) normally it shows the device as working properly. If there is a yellow exclamation mark there should be an error code. If this is there can you post it here please ? mrmadness Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Code 43: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems But now that i dont have drivers it shows just standart VGA adapter. and the screen crashes r coming back, once they start have to restart the laptop because after they will become unbearable and eventually crash for good. KenB Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Code 43: Windows has stopped this device I am afraid that this doesn't tell us much. Code 43 is a very general error - it could be hardware related or drivers. The Nvidia card is broken, yello triangle in the device manager, so i've disabled it If this is still disabled you will only be running on basic drivers. You said that you downloaded the drivers .... did you uninstall the old ones first? If not - download form here click here [ under VGA ] Save it to your desktop. Delete the device from Device Manager then re-install the drivers from the desktop folder. mrmadness Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Yes, I uninstalled the old driver, installed the one from laptops website, it was ok for few days, not it still keeps crashing, not that frequently, but still annoying and fustrating. Restart seems to fix the problem, for a while. and still, if I turn off computer by "shut down", while the screen is black or w/e color it crashed in, when i boot up, it does not show anything, it's all black, and after 3-4 restarts it will work. Plastic Nev Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi, after looking through this thread and seeing that you did drop the laptop, I am a little suspicious that the heat sinks may have become dislodged and it is now overheating, to check that for us we need to see what the internal temperatures are after it has been running for a while, to get that information so that Ken may be able to work from it, can you please download and install "Speccy" from Piriform, from here :- NOTE, This link is a direct download link and it will start to download straight away! You may get the usual small window asking where to download to. http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download/standard Once installed, open the program and copy and paste into your reply the first main index or summary page please after the computer has been running for a while, but hopefully before it crashes, that should be enough as the CPU and other temperatures are displayed there. KenB Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 It may be useful to run Speccy after you boot up then again half an hour or more afterwards. Post the two sets of results. The second may show a significant rise in temperature which may confirm Nev's theory. KenB Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 The dropping of the laptop happened few months before the blackouts thou.. That makes a big difference. If something was damaged or dislodged then you would see a problem immediately - not months afterwards. Those temperatures are fine - especially if the machine has been running for a couple of hours. Which driver is showing in Device Manager? Is there still a yellow exclamation mark ? mrmadness Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 I have not installed any Nvidia drivers, -> for nvdia gpu it shows - > Standard VGA Graphics Adapter > This device cannot start. (Code 10) for the onboard - > Intel® HD Graphics Family -> This device is working properly. Nvidia has been dead after the drop, and i just uninstalled the drivers and let it rot inside, because im not too comfortable with opening laptops front. So I think that the broken Nvidia is not the fault to the blackouts, because I lived without it for months before the blackouts started. Quote
KenB Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Hi I have just looked at the Speccy log again. It shows ... Intel HD Graphics Family (ASUStek Computer Inc) NVIDIA Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (ASUStek Computer Inc) The specs for your machine show an NVidia GForce MT 555M click here and here Specs can vary - but there should not be 2 different video card drivers installed - they can conflict. If the NVidia graphics are on the original spec - uninstall the Intel ones from Device Manager. Install the MT 555M drivers.- it is this that should be showing in Device Manager not "Standard VGA" Again - ONLY if the NVidia were on the original spec. mrmadness Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Im now using only the onboard graphics - intel hd 3000 or smthg. The Nvidia one hasnt been used since the drop, and there are no nvidia drivers installed, Last time i installed them there was the yellow triangle, after i reinstalled windows, the triangle was gone, and I could launch applications/games with Nvidia, when they loaded up there was a freeze and blue screen. So i just didnt bother with it, this was all half a year before black outs. Quote
