pennsylvaniabob Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Hi I am new here, and this is the problem My Windows 7 64 bit home premimum will not 1. sfc /scannow in any mode...2 Windows update will not work and displays error 80073712....3 Cannot install any new programs or software. I have done everything that can be done and was faced with only the upgrade install of windows 7 as a last ditch effort. Well it runs to the point of fully copying files to my computer then it fails and states go online for updates and try again THAT is the PROBLEM ..I ask if this ios the last solution what now? I would do a clean install but then lose all my programs etc thanks Bob Quote
KenB Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Hi Bob and welcome to ExTS :) I am a bit confused. You state ... Windows update will not work and displays error 80073712 Further on you state .... it fails and states go online for updates and try again When does the error 80073712 occur if the install asks you to "...go online ..." ? Can you still boot up ? Can you boot up in Safe Mode ? If so - boot up in Safe Mode with Networking. pennsylvaniabob Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 thank you for your advice. I have tried everything you suggested and more. Nothing seems to work.Do you think that ant tech. could solve this if I bring it in? or should I just try to save my data inthe cloud and buy a new HD thanks Quote
KenB Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Hi Bob I would be inclined to check the drive out to see if it is actually dying. If you can connect it to another machine using an external enclosure or Hard drive to USB Adapter you can run Seatools for Windows on it. click here If you are not happy doing this then Seatools for DOS allows you to burn the software to a CD. You simply pop this in the drive of the problem machine and it will do the rest. In both cases you will get a report of the state of your drive. Any "Fail" I would replace the hard drive. There are tutorials on the site too if you need these. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
