silva Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 PC telling me (and it often has) that no connection between pc and printer. Have done all the things they suggest - several times. on the odd occasion it will work and then goes down again. I have taken out the printer and then used the original disc to put it back again, still to no avail. Can't tell you how many times I have turned it all off and then on again - as I said sometimes that works but mostly not. Any help appreciated but hope it's not too technical! thanks. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Hi Silva, can you tell us please, the make and model of the printer, and is the connection wired or wireless. For now I will assume wired, have you tried a new cable? Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. silva Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Hi Nev - model is 'Dell Photo AIO Printer 926' and it's wired. How do I get another cable? do I have to get it from Dell or just a shop that sells that sort of thing.. thanks for your reply. Quote
KenB Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Hi Silva The cable looks like this - it is a Printer Data Cable http://salestores.com/stores/images/images_747/USB2AB-Blue.jpg The connection on the left fits the USB port on your PC and the other one connects to the printer. You can buy these cables anywhere - eBay - Computer stores - even some supermarkets. ( You will pay more from major computer stores ) They come in different lengths - measure the one you have already ... it really depends how far from the printer your PC is. [ The length of the cable does not affect the printing function ] Have you tried a different USB port on your computer. If it is a desktop - try the USB ports that are at the back ( or front if using the back already ) It does sound like a connection problem. Let us know which computer you have and the Operating System please. We may need this information if we need to look for up to date drivers. One or two more questions ..... Has this printer ever worked properly with this computer ? If so - how long ago ? silva Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 thanks KenB - well, I plugged the cable into a different USB port ( between you and me I didn't know that I could use the ones at the front as well as at the back - how dumb is that!) and tried the printer again and it's printed. my whole package is over 5yrs old and yes it did work fine before. Sooo will try it for a while with that and see what happens - thanks so much for the pictures makes such a difference, when you know as little as I do just saying doesn't always register the meaning. my excuse is that i'm elderly but I do try. thanks again Ken. if it fails will come back with the other info. KenB Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Hi again silva i'm elderly but I do try. You will fit in well here then .... most of us have been around the block more than once !! :) Sometimes the ones at the back ( or front ) develop problems and if you try the opposite side it often solves the problem. They are independent of each other. Please do come back and let us know how you get on ...... we are always here to help. If you post back - let us know the make and model number of your computer please and which Operating System you are using. Plastic Nev Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I will just add that if there is still a problem, the USB cables are cheap enough to buy so a replacement is the next to try. Nev.
