Hi all,

Need a bit of help please - I have a screwed up HP Compaq Mini CQ10 - 500 EA and I have been trying to restore it back to Factory Settings but the recovery manager is missing from the hard drive. When I access the Recovery program it says empty. Does anyone know how to reinstall or reset the machine? HP doesn't deal with this problem on its website so any help will be gladly accepted.:smash::smash::smash:

Hi Woodbug.

I have found the full manual for your computer, it is a PDF file so may be best to download onto another computer or device with a big enough screen, have a look at chapter 6 on it here :-

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02481106.pdf

It says there that you can download to a flashdrive the full recovery, scroll down to :-

Downloading and extracting the Disaster Recovery utility

It explains the process and gives the website address and code required to download all that you should need.

If I understand right you want to restore to factory settings not recover to an earlier time from a backup etc.

HP usually has the recovery files on a hard drive partition. Open Computer to see if the FACTORY IMAGE (D) is visible.

On your system the Recovery Manager should open to give you the option to restore to factory settings but for some reason it does not.In this case there are two options you can try.

1. Use the recovery disks that you made when the Recovery Manager worked. Insert the disks and restart the computer and the computer will boot from disk 1. If you did not make the disks you may be able to order them from HP.

2. a. Turn on or restart the computer.

b. Press f11 while the “Press <F11> for recovery” message is displayed on the screen.
