Hi Advanced, The issue is he doesn't have any working audio. He doesn't show any "bangs" in the device manager, this is why I lean towards the UAA bus driver. I have come across this half a dozen times. It's always been the bus driver. Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Well if it is the UAA then under the Device Manager if you scroll

down to System devices and expand it he should see a YELLOW exclamation mark

on it (at least I always have).

Windows update typically doesn't update it until some other Windows update gets put in place (I have not taken the time to determine what it is, but typically I do all the Critical Updates and then a few of the Optional updates, and then often it will detect and offer the UAA driver)

Hopefully either via Window update or by a link to HP/Compaq he can get the required file which should make the audio operational.

Thanks for the input and feedback Cindy. :D

Did you install the bus driver first MrMoney?

That picture looks like your trying to install the realtek driver first.

Well here is a direct download link, though re-reading I'm not so sure this will help.

HP AUU driver sp26731.exe (18.09M)

Try this and if it does not then let us know. We should get some other information from your computer to help us diagnose the problem, issue.

Make sure all cables work (try on another computer if you can), try headphones if needed.

Is there a volume control in the bottom taskbar? In Control Panel -- Sound and Audio Devices can you see an option to put the volume control on the taskbar?

I got round to opening up the BIOS today. The AC'97 was, for reasons I don't understand, disabled. So I enabled it and BOOM! Windows detects an Multimedia Audio Controller. So yeah, I'll probably have to install some drivers now, but it looks like I'm in business.

Thanks to whoever suggested BIOS.

Thanks for the update, but I don't get something.

If the audio controller was disabled in the bios, it wouldn't show up in Device Manger, or if it did, it would show as disabled. Although the fact that it's a combo modem/audio may have something to do with that.

Actually, another new device showed up in the Device Manager, and actually, I'm having some problems with it.

It comes up with a yellow ! next to it. When I do a Windows Update on the driver, naturally it fails.

I then went to the CMedia website, downloaded the driver, but it still shows up yellow. Is there anything I need to do to get the thing to detect the driver?

Right click on the C-media audio device in Device Manager and choose Properties. What does it show for the Device Status?

So is your sound is working now?

Look at the back of the computer. Are there two different areas that you can plug your speakers in?

I'm trying to found if you if the c-media audio is a different audio card than the unimodem audio card. Look at the back of the computer. Are there two different areas that you can plug your speakers in? If so, try the speakers in the other. Also check if you can select the unimodem audio device in Sounds and audio devices.

Another option: Right click on the c-media, choose uninstall, then restart.

After I enabled the thing in the BIOS, I knew I was onto something.

After that, it was just figuring out which driver to install, and it appears the plain old non-HD Realtek Audio Driver was the way to go.

Thank you for all your help.

Thanks again for the update.

It was an unusual fix given what device manager was showing.
