Before I re-installed windows 7, I could drag items out of a zip file onto the desktop creating a copied version. For some reason anything in a zip folder is just locked in there, I cant copy them out onto the desktop, nothing. The only way I can get files in a zip out is by right clicking and using extract. Meaning I get all the files in that zip.

How can I make it the way it was before?

basically...I cant drag a item out of a zip folder onto my desktop. It makes me have to extract everything in it. I can't copy things in a zip, or open. Before I could.

I am using Windows 7 normal zip folders. I also got Winrar. I just want to be able to drag a file from my win7 zip folders, and be able to copy it into a desired location. When I try to do that it dosn't copy.

If it is a normal compressed or zipped folder dragging or copying does the same thing as extracting. It will decompress or unzip the files. It's strange that it does not work for you. I assume normal folders and files are OK.

Since you just reinstalled Windows 7 did you get all the Windows Updates? Perhaps one will pertain to your issue.

You could also check the manufacturers support site to see if there is an update there that might pertain to your issue. What is your make, model and number?

It could be permission related. Try making a folder c:\test and drag there. If that works then the zip functionality cant access your profile c:\users\...\desktop\. i personally use 7zip. Its shell integrated so all zipping and unzipping is done via right click menu in Windows Explorer. In your situation i would drag and drop the zip to the desktop using the right click button. Its a really fast method.

Something said earlier, and also the last post by RossMcGibbon has made me wonder if a program you had previously has not been reinstalled after the fresh install of Windows 7.

I say this because you cannot enter or access anything in a zipped folder until it has been unzipped, so you might have had a program previously that was automatically unzipping them.

Nev.

It could be something to do with having Winrar installed. I know from experience (not recent) that this can upset (or take over) Windows's own zip funtion.
