I have used AVG free version for several years and its been fine and am up to date with the 2014 version however after a recent update when computer needed to be re started I am now getting a warning message from WindowsSecurity Centre ' your computer may not be fully protected, click button to fix. When I click the button I am told Firewall On, Automatic updates on but virus protection is off which makes sense as my AV protection is with AVG and not Windows security essentials and I would not want to run two AV programmes as they may conflict.

My real concern is that my AVG Free vesion interface has a message telling me my resident shield component is not active. However the interface shows my updates are up to date and my web browsing is protected and so are my emails.

Am I right in thinking resident shielld is not part of the package offered under AVG Free and is only provided with the full version for which you pay?

Can someone advise on this please so I may be assured of protection.

Thanks

Ray

That's the actual realtime antivirus component. I don't use AVG, but that should be included in AVG Free. From the AVG website. Do the opposite to try and enable it.

[h=3]Computer protection (Resident Shield)[/h]The Computer component ensures full protection of your computer from the inside, which makes it useful even if your computer is not connected to any network at the moment. It can detect all known types of viruses and spyware, including sleeping threats and rootkits.

To disable the component:

  1. Open the AVG program.
  2. Click the Computer component.
  3. In the Anti-Virus section, change the switch to Disabled.
