RandyL Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Hi again Slumdog; As it has been five days since anyone has any advice on the Nokia issue I will offer two final possibilities if the Nokia support forum can't help. Try creating another Administrator account and installing from that account. Most software will install across accounts or give you the option to do so. Your user profile account might be corrupted. This could have been caused by malware but more likely by registry cleaners or optimizers which are usually bogus or just out right dangerous unless you very savvy. You seem to indicate that you have used such programs if I am not mistaken. This kind of software can cause all sorts of corruption. It can cripple programs including the uninstallers. As I also said before it can even cause major issues with Windows itself which you seem to have. You should not be getting those errors. Especially since it installed correctly before you took those steps. I hope I am wrong though. Normally I would suggest a specific free version of an uninstaller but at this point it does not appear to be an uninstall issue but rather a permission or privilege issue although you never did say if you tried to install after you disabled your antivirus which is AVG or Malwarebytes trial version or both. Reinstall Windows. After using registry cleaners or optimizers it's almost impossible to predict what they may have done as they are completely unreliable if not out right totall crapware. Modifying the registry should only be done with extreme caution after a registry backup. Optimizers most often delete needed files including so called duplicate files such as needed dll files. The good news is that you are one of the lucky ones. Since you can boot to Windows backup to media everything you need before reinstalling Windows. The bad news is if you have used such programs without guidance or knowledge then even if you do get Nokia to install correctly there is no gaurantee that those programs have not caused other issues which may arise. Malware. Our experts have most certainly took care of that. They are the best in the world. As you said Starbuck was very good. I agree. I wish you well Slumdog. Slumdog Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Hi R, yes, I did try to install with AVG disabled. Same outcome. The only registry cleaners I would of used were those recommended by Starbuck and I doubt that he would use a 'bogus' program. Quote

I think this laptop has some serious problems. (help starbuck!!!) I have also tried now to install nokia under a new administrator account and still get the same error message. Quote

The Mbam homepage kept popping up every few minutes and updating itself for some reason so I got rid of that and tried the Microsoft anti-malware. During a full scan, I noticed it was scanning a lot of Nokia suite and Nokia Ovi files. I thought I had deleted all of them, will they still be hiding somewhere? Quote

Now click on FRST to run it..... type the following in the edit box after Search: Nokia Click the Search File(s) button It will make a log (Search.txt)- please post this report along with the next FRST report. Plastic Nev Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If I can just slip in here, for future reference, to find "C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86)" Click the start orb, then click on "Computer", at the top of the window it will show the drives and how full each one is if more than one, in my case it says "Packard Bell, (C: ) and also Data (D: ) a double click on the (C: ) will open the list of contents and both "Program files" and "Program files (x86)" will be there. We'll try these again and also remove the main Nokia entries from the registry. I see those 3 hidden nokia entries in the add/remove are in the search report, so we'll add those. Did you also uninstall the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver The latest version of Nokia suite will add the latest version of this on install. Please download the attached fixlist.txt file (bottom of this post) and save it to the Desktop. NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. I still don't have the'privileges' to install. I tried to install an older version which I had before and I couldn't do that either. It may well be a problem with corrupt permissions etc. Please download Windows Repair (all in one) Windows Repair can perform the following tasks: Reset Registry Permissions Reset File Permissions Register System Files Repair WMI Repair Windows Firewall Repair Internet Explorer Repair MDAC & MS Jet Repair Hosts File Remove Policies Set By Infections Repair Icons Repair Winsock & DNS Cache Remove Temp Files Repair Proxy Settings Unhide Non System Files Repair Windows Updates Repair CD/DVD Missing/Not Working Double click on the icon to install the program. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. There is also a folder located at C:\FRST. Right click on this folder and select delete to remove the quarantine items and saved reports. Is the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool ok to use instead of MBAM? Not really. It's not updated very often.... where as MBAM is updated several times a day. Can I use Tweaking.com as and when I feel I may have any problems? Yes, by all means. It actually installs to your system, so has to be uninstalled through the Control Panel if you ever want to remove it.
