peter1929 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Hi, My old printer went wrong so I have purchased a Canon Pixma MG2450 as replacement. On my old printer I refilled the ink carts. without difficulty. However, on examining those on my new printer I cannot see how to do this. They are Canon FINE 545 (black) and 546 (coliour). Can anyone please help? Best wishes, Peter1929 Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Hi Peter, I have a Canon MG 2250, that uses a cartridge numbered 540 (B) and 541 ©, slightly different I think by looking at pictures of yours, however, these styles of cartridge are very similar to those used by HP and for 56 and 57. With the HP cartridges you just peeled back the paper label which then exposed a hole you could inject fresh ink into the cartridge. Though as yet not needed to do so as my Canon printer isn't that old, I am expecting to find something similar. However, if no hole, most refill ink kits come with a small drill, and instructions for where to put the hole for cartridges that require a hole drilled into them. Edit to add, I found instructions for the black 540, I expect yours will be similar here :- http://www.octopus-office.de/en/info/ink-refill-instructions/ink-refill-instructions-for-canon/refill-instructions-for-canon-pg-540-cl-541/ink-refill-instructions-canon-pg-540-pg-540-xl/ A search round that site might find some instructions for yours, though maybe in German?? I also hope there isn't some odd thing in software that rejects or refuses to accept a refilled cartridge, as some other printer manufacturers install and requires a chip in the cartridge to be reset. Ray1000 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Also ... YouTube seem to have instructions for similar cartridges. Ray Quote
peter1929 Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Thank you for your replies. However, on removing the labels from the cartridges I find that the tops of them are different from any other cartridges I am familiar with or have seen pictures of. Also my refill kit does not contain instructions for them. While I might risk drilling a hole in the centre of the top of the black cartridge and refilling it, I would not care to guess where the holes should go in the colour cartridge or what colour ink should go in which hole. I could not find relevant instructions in the website referred to. Can anyone please help with precise instructions for refilling Canon FINE Carts. 545 &546. Peter1929. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Hi again Peter, information seems a little hard to obtain as possibly the 545 and 546 may be fairly new on the market. However the 541 colour cartridge looks similar and here is a video I found for that one. A bit difficult to see being black plastic, however if you watch carefully, three holes need to be drilled, one near the top middle, with one to the left lower down and one to the right lower down. Although he filled each with blue in the left, red in the middle and yellow in the right, be careful to check. Once the holes are drilled, push in a needle or fine wire, then wipe it on some paper to check the colour is correct for each hole before injecting fresh ink in. Sorry, but unless someone else has some practical experience and can give further advice, it is the best I can do. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hi Peter, thanks for letting us know, shame the Canon went wrong and had to be returned though as Canon are usually reliable. Nev.
