I left my computer running overnight and I think it updated or something. It's lost three drivers. The teredo tunneling pseudo-interface, ethernet controller and the USB driver. I have found the first but it gives a code 10 which I assume it would because of the other two missing. I have tried the remaining two but it is always complicated by the 'Mr Fix-its' wanting to sell their proggies.

I am loath to insert the upgrade disk to repair as I cannot see that option early enough in the operation and I fear loosing all my info.

What info do I need to give you to help with this?

Hi. The first I would do is a System Restore.

See if that helps.

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

Hmmm must be thinking along the right lines cuz that was the first thing I tried. It only went back two days and because that didn't work I tried another at 13days or more but it still wont work. Whatever it was deleted the three drivers. Also they are not to be found on the 'net where windows normally looks for stuff.

I think this computer is giving me the run-around. I have just spent 3 hours or more at archery then cooking supper. I came here to my computer and thought I'd give the Dell another go at scanning an art image. Bless me if it didn't work first time and it did not take its time about it either. All well and good thinks me but will it do the same in Irfan view? I had to try and it worked like a charm-scanner that is. What has changed, I did put the W7 Home disk in the drive and it started loading in the files. So I looked in device manager and the three drives are stiil mising. That is they have a yellow asterix next to them. Yet this morning it would neither print nor scan. I even deleted the printer and installed it again in the hopes of some miracle.

So all's well it seems.

Sorry to have bothered you chaps.

OK Jim, thanks for the update, computers can sometimes be very strange beasts indeed. If these drivers were train drivers, I would have suggested they had gone on strike. :D

However on a serious note, it may well be the system collected the right drivers from the disk, it just required the reboot to turn them on.

Ah I looked in device manager and the three drivers are still missing. They each have a yellow asterix heading their title.

I am in no doubt that they stopped the computer printing and scanning via the Dell yesterday morning. All the warnings as I went through the trouble shooting routine said about each driver in turn. Just thought to try again this morning........

Yep! It works. I am now mystified. Whats different? Why does it now work?
