I've got a problem with one of my Acer laptops that has been driving menuts and so I hope you can make some suggestions.

Forsome reason it frequently disconnects from my network and the onlyway I'm able to reconnect is to restart my computer. This doesn'tonly happen with my BT hub but also if I'm connected to BT WiFi.

I'vetried performing complete scans with Avast and Superantispyware and even reset to a restore point dated before the problem arose.

David :)

Hi Woodworker

I've got a problem with one of my Acer laptops

I take it this laptop is running Win8 ?? (as your OS is listed as such )

Take a look here:

Scroll down to 'The Tutorial' section and try the suggestion.

There is also another suggestion at the beginning of the Comments.

Let us know if this solves your problem.

This problem has risen its ugly headagain and I've now become so fed-up with Win 8 – 8.1 that I'mseriously thinking about paying to have it removed and Win 7installed.

I realise that techies like Win 8 but,as an ordinary user who just wants to use the internet and useprograms without major hassles, I hate it !!!

Hi David, it may be those power settings have gone back to the default settings, that can sometimes happen when updates are installed. Just check and if they have, reset them to not turn off again.

Otherwise, Windows 7 can be installed, either as a dual boot or to completely replace Windows 8.1 Not many folk like Windows 8 on ordinary computers, laptops or desktops, in fact most of us only got it to help learn how to fix it, not actually use it.

I haven't even got it yet and don't want too.

I have Windows8.1 and don't use it much as I hate it with a passion.

I use Windows7 most the time in a dual boot configuration.

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

Oh – Thank you Nev for cheering me up a little by agreeing with me and not making me feel such a dinosaur :)

I can't think why on earth a mega company like Microsoft released Win 8 without putting it in the hands of some users like me and taking heed of our verdicts. I've read many customer reviews on Amazon and few like it – Some are even giving poor ratings of laptops because of it. I've had just about every operating system since 3.1 and have had more hassle trying to use 8 and 8.1 than any! Let's hope Microsoft's next offering will be more stable and user friendly!

Yes, I've checked and rechecked the settings but this now doesn't work!

I've begun making enquiries but part of my problem is that I'm housebound and will need to get my lappy collected and brought back. If I were to purchase Win 7 howdiffi cult would it be to install it myself? Please near in mind that I've given away two Android smartphones because I couldn't master them!

All the best, David :)

Thanks for that - I'm feeling less alone!

Hi David

Give Classic Shell a try - it gives you some of Win7 look and feel back.

It was free last time a checked.

Thanks Ken and, yes, I installed Classic Shell some time ago - A wonderful program I wholeheartedly recommend :)

Regards, David :)

P.S: My Wi-Fi connection is stable again at present so, here's hoping!
