hi i tried to instal another hard drive into my pc i linked it up with the exsisting h/d using the ide cable but the pc then said it couldnt find a operating system i removed the h/d and then tried to boot from the original h/d which i had changed nothin on but it now cant find a hard drive please help my operatin systemis xp pc is a fujisui semens

Hello Bill

 

Make sure the drive that contains the operating system is attached to the far end connector on the IDE cable, make sure the jumper is set to Master also.

Set the new drive on the middle connector on the IDE cable with the jumper set to Slave.

 

I will move this thread to the Hardware section when you have replied ok.

Do you know how to get into the BIOS?

 

If you do then make sure the first boot option is set to either IDE 0 or 1, if your board says IDE 1 and 2 then make sure it's set to 1

Take a look at your IDE cable. If it has a grey and a black connector for the hard drives as opposed to two black connectors, then it's a Cable Select cable. Also if the two connectors are marked MASTER and SLAVE, then that is also a Cable Select cable.

 

If you have a Cable Select cable, set the jumpers on the hard drive to Cable Select.
