Hello,

My son's almsot new (few months old) laptop Lenovo Z500 stop charging. I checked all the help I could find online on my laptop. So far:

1.Lenovo offers this, but it didnt work:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-charge-plugged-in-not/ta-p/1139477

2.I found this as well:

http://offthewallchina.blogspot.com.es/2012/07/lenovo-plugged-in-not-charging-battery.html

but I just cant get to the battery (despite all tutorials from Lenovo and few on youtube) and already have few plastic pieces around the laptop, so I decided to just stop trying to open it to perform what they suggest.

Is there anyone who can give better suggestion to make the battery charge again, as my son really needs his laptop for his studies, has few books downloaded there. We have around 2 h battery left, when we just turn it off to save this energy for potential repair activities.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Yockie,

If the Lenovo firmware update didn't fix the problem and considering it is only a few months old, ideally it should go back under warranty. Quite a lot of the newer laptops and small notebooks it is not an easy job to get at and remove the battery and ideally you would require the full service manual which would of course show how.

I have found that service manual for you, have a look here :-

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z500p500_hmm_1st_edition_sep_2012_english.pdf

It is in PDF format so you will require either the Adobe reader, or similar PDF reading program.

Have a look at page 21 for general checks, then if you do need to remove the battery look at page 39, you do need to disassemble quite a bit. To check the power adapter as described on page 21 you will require a volt meter or multimeter.

Personally and looking at that manual and what is required, I would certainly send it back under its warranty.

Nev.

Ah, thank you so much, Magma :) I will remember that, very good tip. Now, if you can find me several of those old laptops you use to work with, as I asked for ( for charity) in another post- you will be my hero ;) Thank you!
