mhansomme Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Hello, How do I fix error 0x80004005 : Unspecified error (On windows 7)? This has been happening for the last few months since I started using the free antivirus edition of AVG. I've been trying to rename music files but each time I make an attempt, there's the error that I made mention of prior. I am a little computer literate but not a computer techie. There's a big difference. With that said, if you're a computer techie and you know what this error is and how I can fix it, please share. Awaiting help. Thanks Quote
KenB Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Hi and welcome to ExTS You say that this started when you installed AVG. Have you tried disabling / removing AVG then try re-naming the files ? I would disconnect from the internet when you do this just to be sure. error 0x80004005.could be due to system file errors and we can check this after you try the above, Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! steve61 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Can I suggest starting up a DOS window (its in the start menu "Command Prompt"). Then type in: sfc scannow It may take a while to run, and will want a restart after it has finished, but it will find and repair any system files that may not be right. Quote
Starbuck Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hi Steve, You may want to slow down a bit. If you read the previous post, it did say: error 0x80004005.could be due to system file errors and we can check this after you try the above, So System File Checker is the next step...... but let's wait for the result of the first step before rushing along. Thanks. Quote Member of:UNITE
steve61 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Yes, sorry correct, it should be: sfc /scannow And, if you are not logged in as an administrator, then use Right click and select run as administrator when starting up the DOS prompt. My fault, in a rush. Quote
KenB Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I can't see the O/P coming back to this one. Just for clarity to others reading this thread: To run System File Checker ..... Start > type in ....cmd .... then top left of screen right click on cmd.exe .....click on Run as Administrator This will take you to a command prompt. At the prompt type ......sfc /scannow ......ENTER [ there is a space after sfc ] This will run a check on the System Files. You can do this a second time if the error is not corrected as sometimes it will pick up things on the second run that were missed. You may need the original installation disk to correct some errors - you will be prompted for this.
