Hi all, I've been unable to sign in on ebay for a few days now & I'm reading of "outages" that have occurred recently. I can access the site to browse etc, but can't sign in as the screen freezes as soon as I've entered just part of my ID. Calling, which needs a one time pass code, chat, trying to contact C/S all require that I sign in!!! I since found a site called "Is it down right now" which says ebay is up & running, but if I can't sign in, it's on my PC. I'm in West Yorkshire & some of the comments on this site have most contributors from anywhere in the UK saying they also can't connect. I've done the usual, ie cleared cache, cookies etc, but still can't access my account. I've even tried going to ebay.com as opposed to ebay .co.uk but still no go. Any ideas.

Hi

I have just used ebay and ordered an item - so there is nothing wrong with the site itself.

I would have suggested clearing Cookies ( suspecting a corrupt cookie ) but you have done this.

Try this: ( assuming XP )

Start > Run > type in ......cmd ..... hit ENTER

At the prompt type ..... ipconfig /release .......hit ENTER .....[ there is a space before / ]

Then type ...................ipconfig /renew

Try the site again.

Hi KenB My system is windows 8. I got through to my ebay & signed in via a friends PC using my ID etc, no problem, so it seems the problem is on with my set-up. After ages with ebay trying to sort it, they suggested that my IP (internet explorer) could be corrupted & to free download Firefox, which I did. I'm no PC whizz kid, but when I downloaded Firefox & tried to get on ebay, I got the message that this site had failed my security (Kaspersky) So I uninstalled Firefox. If anyone can explain, in detail, the in's & out's of what to expect & how to download a programme like Firefox, I'd be obliged. It seems pretty straight forward at first, but then all sorts of other bits come up which I've no idea if they are connected with what I'm downloading, also an agreement that's pages long etc.

Hi, I have nothing to help with your problem, however I can say that there is nothing wrong with Firefox itself, the download is straight forward and nothing special to do, except to make sure any unwanted software and additions other than Firefox are unticked during the download and install.

The long agreement thing is nothing more than the usual end users license agreement (EULA) that you would find with most software downloads.

If you are using Kaspersky antivirus and that is saying Firefox is bad or not secure it is a false positive on the part of Kaspersky. No other antivirus programs have a problem with it.

My eBay is working perfectly normal ... would it be worth disabling your antivirus prior to to signing on just to see if it makes a difference.

I had this happen to me about 2 months ago.... it said i needed a one time passcode.... yeah right!

I was using Firefox then.

I just couldn't get onto Ebay.

I tried with IE and got straight in... no problem.

The Ebay app on my phone still worked fine as well.

I used IE for about a week ( just for Ebay ) then went back to Firefox and all was well again.

Never did find out what the problem was.

There were no boxes to untick during the install that I could see. If I could install Firefox without all the other "hangers on" I'd re-install it. I'm not paranoid that I need ebay on my PC, it's just that there's an obvious problem with my laptop.

There was also the offer to "back-up" the files etc, which again had no box to uncheck. After the download, the message was that not all files were backed up, to continue would cost x£ with a 20% off for the first 12mths. That was uninstalled as well.

My system is Win 8

Was your system showing as XP in your profile or am I losing the plot ??

I assume that you have not tried ipconfig /release etc ?

For Win 8:

Get to the Search Box ( point curser to top right corner of screen )

Type in .....command prompt ....... right click on the Command Prompt box that will show underneath

Click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt type in ......ipconfig /release .....[ space before / ] ......then hit ENTER

Then type in .......ipconfig /renew ....ENTER

Try the site again.

Have you managed to install F-F ?

If so .....

Do you get the same results with F-F and IE ?

From what you say, you got this odd junkware when you downloaded Firefox, where did you obtain the download from?

Ideally it should be downloaded from the Mozilla Firefox website here :-

Sorry i don't understand this.

Wife's new PC arrived today and after installing a decent AV....the first thing i did was install Firefox.

No problem at all, no extras, no hangers on.

Always get programs from the vendors own site ( if available ) and never use a download manager .... why would you ever need one??

Nev's link for Firefox is definitely the one you should use.

It was downloaded from that link, so maybe I didn't know what I was doing, as previously stated, I'm no whizz-kid! Anyway chaps, panic over. As I could sign in to ebay on a friends PC, he recommended I take it to his friend who has his own computer business. He had it sorted within an hour or so. It seems that IE was not connecting as it should, but when he installed Google Chrome, there wasn't a problem? I was never over keen on that browser having un-installed it from my then PC years ago & stayed with IE. But now that both browsers are on my laptop, if I need to go to ebay I'll use GC, preferring to us IE for all other browsing.

Thanks for the help.
