Hello, recently my hard drive has began acting strangely. While playing games that require a lot of power from my gpu, the hard drive will click and make spinning-up noises repeatedly until it disconnects. Once this happens, the game freezes and my computer tells me that the hard drive was removed. I must then reset my computer to regain use of the drive. This does not happen for every game. Is my drive simply failing? or is there something that could possibly be done? The drive only makes the noises shortly before disconnecting and the connections seem to be good.

Thank you for your replies

Hi and welcome to ExTS

the hard drive will click and make spinning-up noises

Spinning noises are normal - a clicking drive however, is a cause for concern.

I suspect that your hard drive is failing.

It sounds as if it may be in the early stages - but there is no time frame that a failing drive follows .....

Whilst you can - boot up ...... save all of your files / photos / email contacts etc to an external drive or DVD(s)

We can run some tests on the drive after you have done this.

Do you have an installation CD / Recovery CDs for your operating system ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
