Hi

Can anyone make me understand the following:-

I have recently had a update on my WDTV Live telling me it is miracast compatible.

So I thought what a great idea I can mirror my laptop directly to my TV, however when I go to the charm Devices, Project, add a wireless display is not there.

I have read and googled so many items but I cannot figure out why my Windows 8.1 is not showing add wireless display.

In a previous persons question in Microsoft forum they answered with the following:-

"Generally, if your PC came with Windows 8.1 and your wireless display supports Miracast, you’re ready to add the wireless display to your PC to complete the connection, and start projecting"

1) My windows came with Windows 8 and I updated it to Windows 8.1, does this make a difference?

2) I have a WDTV Live which supports Miracast.

"However, if you upgraded your PC from an older version of Windows, you'll need to make sure your PC supports Miracast and is ready to project. Also, if the display you'll project to doesn’t support Miracast, you’ll need to set up the display by adding an extra piece of hardware to it before you can start projecting"

3) State older version of windows do you they mean Windows 8?

4) How do I make sure my PC supports Miracast.......

Check if your PC supports Miracast

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then clickDevices.)

  2. Tap or click Project. If you see Add a wireless display, your PC supports Miracast.

So if my PC does NOT SHOW add wireless display (which it doesn't), can I then take it that my PC DOES NOT support Miracast and if that is the case can you explain to me why my PC would not support it and what I need to do to get it supporting?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Andrea.

We will need to know the make and model number of your PC as it may actually be a case that there isn't the hardware installed in it, or it may need hardware drivers updating if the hardware can work with it.

So please let us know that make and model number of your computer so we can find out for you.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

So if my PC does NOT SHOW add wireless display (which it doesn't), can I then take it that my PC DOES NOT support Miracast .........what I need to do to get it supporting?

You can assume that your system does NOT support Miracast if it is not showing when you click on "Project" and "Add a Wireless Display" is not there.

I have Win 8.1 ( upgraded from Win 8 )

I do not have "Add a Wireless Display" either.

The TV must support Miracast too.

You can get adapters - click here

I don't know anything about Miracast so further advice may be limited.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
