I have an Acer Veriton n260 net top PC attached to my TV (literally) but the CMOS battery is flat and every time it starts up the time is wrong. Is there a startup program that will set the time so that I don't have to manually enter it before I use the PC?

Or does someone know what battery it is, where I can get one (preferably in the UK) and how to fit it?

Hi, you do most certainly need to replace that battery, as without the absolute correct time as set by the internet time service it will not receive updates (Unless it is running XP then there are no more updates) there is no other way round to my knowledge.

One good thing about Acer, they are good and free at providing service manuals with good explanations about dismantling it.

You will need to do most of the dismantling to get to the battery, however I am pretty sure it is the object encased in yellow plastic in the photographs shown and it looks like a wired in type. They may only be available from specialist suppliers so I suggest contacting Acer themselves as they will know where to obtain one. (Unlike desktop mother boards where the battery is held in clips and easily replaced)

Here is a link to a PDF download of the service manual,

http://acersupport.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2009/ServiceGuides/SG_Veriton_N260_N260G_BOOK_20090520.pdf

You need to scroll down to chapter 3 on page 33 for the description of dismantling, unfortunately there isn't much about the battery or replacement, however you should see the yellow encapsulated thing as it stands out in the pictures.

I have also found a video and looking at one point in the video the yellow battery is seemingly plugged into the mother board, though the video is about replacing the RAM, the motherboard pictures are a bit better than those in the manual,

Here is the video

Have a good read through the manual, it will tell you quite a lot about other aspects of the computer you may not know about as well.

You can see the battery (yellow) and it's part number in this part of the video:

eBay is normally a good place to find such a thing or even a quick call to Acer UK may be able to point you in the right direction to get a replacement.

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at the service manual and see if I can do it myself. The computer does run XP and is only used to stream catchup TV, although it hasn't been used much for the last year which is probably why the battery has died.

Best of luck with it and hope you can still get a replacement. You might get lucky with any of the electronics parts stores such as Maplin or similar.

Hi

This is the part you need

Google the part number - CR2032CL 3

I found one for £11-99

Not sure how much they would be where you are ..... Google will tell you.

The most awkward part of replacement is splitting the case.

The video Nev posted explains this.

The battery simply unplugs ( use tweezers ) and the new one plugs back in.

If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself phone a local tech and ask for a price for replacement.

Quote your Acer Veriton n260

Let us know how you get on :)

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
