Wizbuzz Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Any Clues To This problem a friends computer is having, it's an old computer (about 8 years old) & running Windows XP. I started it & it fired up okay first time, it took a while to load but when done it ran for about 5 minutes then off, as if we had power cut. Tried to restart but only get a couple of turns on the fans & that's it (had removed side panel to observe). Had to turn off/on the mains plug to get it to again only rotate the fans again a couple of times. It did start once again but did the same shut down within five minutes again. Also did Ram Modules Check + Blew Out internal Dust Build Up Any Ideas?? Quote
DSTM Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I would be looking at the Power supply as suspect. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
Wizbuzz Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Thanks DSTM, that's my school of thought also & I have a spare supply will try it the weekend, thanks again Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 It could also be overheating, check that the fan and heatsink on the CPU are clear of dust, and that the fan runs. Nev.
