KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Hi George The "Hardware Ref Guide" for your machine is here - click here According to the specs - you have only one PCIe x 16 slot What are you proposing to do ? georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Hi Ken its only for my recording studio guitar keyboards that sort of thing Quote
KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Sorry George I am still a little confused. You mentioned "Dual Graphics Card " Do you want to use 2 cards in your machine - or do you want a card with 2 outputs so that you can operate 2 monitors ? georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 My Fault Ken its so i can run 2 monitors Quote
KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Next question ....which connections do your monitors have ? How much do you want to spend ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 my monitors have the blue vga connectors and no more than £15 Quote
KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 no more than £15 You are not going to get much for this George. Have you considered a splitter ? Something similar to this .... click here It simply plugs into the VGA output on the present card. georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Thats a cracking idea Ken thankyou Quote
KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 It will show the same thing on two screens - if this is what you want then this is a far cheaper option :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 could i watch different things if i download the correct software..? Quote
KenB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 No. The splitter simply divides the signal on the output from the Video Card. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
georgeriley139 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Right so its another video card i need then Quote
KenB Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Yes - afraid so. You are not going to get a new card for £15 - you may get a second hand one on eBay but obviously there are risks. I found a couple: click here click here Dabs are reputable ( UK based ) Both of these cards have 1 VGA socket. If you wanted to use 2 monitors with VGA connections you would need an adapter for one of the other sockets. Using VGA the signal is purely analogue. It cannot carry sound. No problem as your monitors will not have speakers. You no doubt have external speakers. DVI / HDMI are digital. You will get a better picture - but being used to VGA you will not be too bothered about that. You could use one of the digital connections to connect up to the TV. ( assuming that you have a digital connection on the TV ) I have used this for catching up on programs I have missed. Windows 7 has built in options for dual monitors. Hope this helps. georgeriley139 Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Thankyou very much for you help and honesty wow would something like this do Ken? Quote
KenB Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 If that connection is a DMS59 [ Dual Monitor System connection ] then yes it will. If the socket is not DMS59 then this gives you the same situation that you would have if you just added a splitter to what you have at the moment. The pic above is DMS59 .....it is difficult to tell from your pic. :) The advantage of DMS59 cards is that they tend to be low profile ( not as high ) and in your case this may be an advantage. Otherwise you need a video card with 2 outputs. I had a look around and cards with 2 VGA outputs don't seem to exist so as I stated earlier ... you would need an adapter from HDMI to VGA to convert the digital output signal to a VGA connection suitable for your monitor. The image above shows the back of a card that has 3 video outputs. The blue VGA connection you could use. The other connections you would need an adapter for so that you could connect your second VGA monitor to the card. If you look at the links in my last post they both show cards with 2 or more connections. EDIT: Just had a look around .... click here This card on eBay has the DMS59 connection Scroll down for other options. You don't need to buy from eBay - you can simply take the model number of the card and Google it :) Dual Monitor Set-up Win7 This link explains - click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! georgeriley139 Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 Will it need to be full height? Quote
KenB Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Will it need to be full height? Definitely do not get a full height card. Your machine is described as a "Small Form Factor" in the manual and it also states there that the PCIe x16 slot is only suitable for Low Profile cards. Make sure that any card you consider is Low Profile. It will say this in the description of the card. You can compare the height and length of the card with a standard card to see the difference. [ The difference is usually in the height ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! georgeriley139 Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 just got this half height card its too small Quote
KenB Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Too small ?? How do you mean? The PCIe x 16 connection is the same the only thing that varies is the height of the card. Are you trying it in the PCIe x 16 slot ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
georgeriley139 Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 the silver bracket is to small for the hole in the rear of the machine Quote
