connection dropping

ok 1st i am a beginner in the pc net stuff...be gental please..okies my son has just brought a new pc that he has upstairs connected to our BT router via wifi (router is downstairs) we use another pc and ps4 both (downstairs) connected via wired... now when my son starts his pc up our net drops from 3.8Mbps to 1.7Mbps.......... if just my pc n ps4 are connected no drop in speed, even if the xbox is connected via wifi no drop in speed....any idea why his pc is dropping our speed by so much.. this is b4 he even gets on to the net to play any game or surf..when he starts up his pc we cant load pages or play on the consoles as they keep dcing or timing out..

If your son connects with no other devices on the network ( disconnect your pc and PS4 ) what is the connection speed ?

 

Try wireless and using ethernet cable if possible.

ok with his pc only(wifi) our net speed is 1.8 MBPS thats with all other appliances pc/xbox.ps4 disconnected..if he swithches his pc off and i start up mine (wirred) the net is 3.8 Mbps..he cant connect via wired as his room is to far away from the router he is upstairs.. his pc is brand new only been on the net for two weeks will ask him to do a malware check thanks

There is usually a drop off in download speed from ethernet cable to wireless.

 

Can you confirm that when your son is using his machine - when you run a speed test on your wired machine - it drops by half on your machine.

 

Let us have the Malwarebytes results just to rule that one out.

Not sure if you have checked your broadband speed with only your sons PC wired up to the main router downstairs with everything else disconnected?

 

Are you using the same speed checking program on each device?
