Which Printer Should I Buy?

I would like to buy a new Printer but am at a loss trying to figure out which one. They all seem to have so many electronic features on them since I bought my last one. I don't want all those things. I just want a simple Printer that copies, prints and Scans. Has anyone bought a new one lately that they would recommend to me. I am retired and on pension so don't want to spend a lot of money. All advice would be appreciated.

You are asking a very difficult question :)

It is difficult to suggest to somebody how to spend their money - and how much to spend.

Look at the price that you want to pay - and also the review rating.

 

I just want a simple Printer that copies, prints and Scans.

From what you describe - you need an "All in One" printer.

 

You also have to decide if you are going to connect the printer direct to your computer - using a wired connection.

Alternatively you could have a wireless connection.

This type is more convenient if you have a laptop - but they are generally more difficult to set up.

Thank you KenB for your great answer and 2 suggested sites to look at. I will do as you suggest between now and Christmas to find me an All-In-One Printer. I have so many stores to choose from it will probably come down to what I can get for the best price. Thanks again for your help.

I understand you are on a budget but do consider the fact that many of the printer manufacturers sell printers cheaply in order to make considerable profits on replacement ink cartridges which run out in surprisingly short periods of time.

 

I've experience of a number of very disappointing printers but must say I'm very impressed with the Brother All-in-One which I now have and would seriously suggest you consider one.

 

Brother aren't the cheapest and the set-up can be irksome but mine utilises four separate ing tanks which don't cost a small fortune and last a decent while. Also, when one tank expires, you may replace just that one without the necessity of replacing all four.

Just to back up the comments of WOODWORKER-- there are many good cheap all in one printers out there from £30-£35 but you will find that replacement inks cost a lot more--its a sprat to catch a mackerel I would say that you need to look into the replacement inks as much as the cost of the printer.

I am currently using one of the Canon all in ones and find it isn't quite so greedy on ink, cheaper other brands of ink are available too, though cartridge prices for their own aren't much different to other makes.

I did have a Kodak, however they have a separate print head so ink cartridges are quite a bit cheaper, however the print head failed with the black and the replacement cost of a new print head is not worth it, hence why I bought the Canon. So don't be tempted by the Kodak range just because inks are cheaper.

I loathe Kodak printers with a passion and wouldn't accept one as a gift. I thought I'd been unlucky with the first one I had and eventually bought another but that also went into the bin. Yes, the cartridges are cheaper than some but very soon expire even if the machine is only used occasionally. Also, once the colour cartridge is expired, it isn't possible to print black until the colour is replaced. Kodak consumables are a real rip-off - You only need to peruse user reviews on Amazon for proof of my statement.
