Plastic Nev Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Hi thanks for that. The graphics driver is the one you want from this site, download it, then double click on the file and it should install the new driver. You can also use the check for updates first if you wish, it may update the driver for you. Make sure your operating system is the one shown in the drop down menu. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4158&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=6761878 Nev. Quirkie Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 I download it but when it went to install it says this is already on my computer. Do I need to override it and let it install anyway? Quirkie Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hi, I did find this from AMD which might help. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/catalyst-windows-install.aspx Also this, http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/update-drivers-windows-8.htm scroll down to the AMD section. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/tp/windows-8-drivers.htm Nev. Quirkie Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Where do you go to see if the driver needs to be updated? Quirkie Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 If a driver has an update available, you do so in device manager. Not too sure how you find your way into device manager on Windows 8 or 8.1 as I don't have it. However, I hope it is similar to earlier operating systems, by typing "Device Manager" into the search box, then click the "Device Manager" in the search result. Whichever device you are interested in, as perhaps in your case graphics, click the small arrow next to "Display Adapters", then double click the next to open. In that window click to select the drivers tab at the top, then click the "Update driver" If an update is available, Windows will search the internet to find it and install it. However, if the driver is already up to date, nothing will happen other than it will tell you it is up to date, even if the driver itself is faulty. For any other driver, I would then say, click the uninstall button then reboot the computer, you then either let Windows install a driver, or if you already have it downloaded double click the downloaded driver to install it. I am reluctant to say to do that with graphics drivers though, as it may mean you might then have no display to see and work with. Hence why new graphics drivers should install over the top of the existing driver. KenB is hopefully back home tomorrow and he may be able to help further with this, as graphics is not one of my strong points. Sound and most other things perhaps, but can only generalise with graphics. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Quirkie Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Someone else told to try changing the TDR Value! I don't know what it is! I tried looking under device manager but couldn't find where to go to check for updates. Guess it's different on windows 8.1 Quirkie Quote
Quirkie Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 By the way this seems to happen the most when I first turn it on in the mornings, although it has done it during the day Quirkie Quote
KenB Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Hi Quirkie What would make the AMD Display Driver stop working and then recover itself? Do you get an error message that gives you this information ? Where do you go to see if the driver needs to be updated? In Device Manager ....what is listed when you click the > next to "Display Adapters" then right click on The AMD device > Properties > Driver > Driver Version [ Should be a series of numbers ] Is there a yellow exclamation mark against the AMD Device ? KenB Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Hi What would make the AMD Display Driver stop working and then recover itself? Do you get an error message that gives you this information ? You didn't answer the above. ============= I am having no joy on the HP site trying to locate the drivers for your Video from what you have posted previously. I can find information on other sites but not HP !! Can you let HP Auto find your pc - click here You are looking for drivers - specifically the AMD one for 64 bit Windows 8 You need to let me know if the driver version is different from 13.351.1105.1005 I have found the driver version that you indicate here - click here And the one you list is the most recent. Let me know what you find. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Quirkie Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 I'm not having much joy either! I'm trying on the HP site but they aren't coming up with it! Quirkie Quote

You didn't answer the above. You still didn't answer the above. If you are getting an error message I would like to know what this is. If you are not getting an error message I would like to know how you were made aware that the AMD driver stopped working please. Quirkie Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Ken, I'm sorry I didn't answer that question. A little sign pops up in the bottom right corner after the screen goes blank for a few seconds. It says AMD Display Driver quit responding and has successfully recovered. Quirkie Quote
KenB Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Thanks - that doesn't help much. :( Take a look in Device Manager again .....click the > next to Display Adapters > Right click on the AMD Device > Properties > Driver If "Roll Back Driver" is an option ....click on this. This will revert to an earlier driver. I am wondering if there is a corruption in the present driver software. =========== Someone else told to try changing the TDR Value! I don't know what it is! The TDR [ Timeout Detection and Recovery ] monitors the computers hardware and if it stops working for the default 2 seconds it restarts it. The default is normally 2 seconds but this can be changed. To do this you need to alter a Registry setting. This changes the time ( in seconds ) before the TDR kicks in. We can change this time factor - it would stop the message popping up ( probably ) it wouldn't stop the device from shutting down. Quirkie Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Ok "Roll Back Driver" is an option but it's in the gray so cannot click on it Quirkie Quote
KenB Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Ok "Roll Back Driver" is an option but it's in the gray so cannot click on it Pity :( Is the system running normally apart from the error message popping up ? If so - we can try adding a Registry change to extend the TDR value. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Quirkie Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Yes it is running normal:) Quirkie Quote
KenB Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Are you confident enough to make the Registry change ? More to the point - do you wish to give this a go ? Quirkie Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Depending on what all is involved in doing this. Is it complicated and if I do something wrong will it damage my computer? If it's too complicated I could take it in to the computer repair shop. Quirkie Quote
KenB Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Is it complicated Not really - as long as you can follow instructions :) Here is how it is done: Hold down the Windows Key and press W Check that "Everywhere" is the search option ......then type .....regedit ....and click on the Regedit Box that appears. You will see the Registry sub headings ....each beginning with HKEY Click the > next to each of the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > GraphicsDrivers When you click on Graphics Drivers you will see another list below beginning with "Additional ModeLists" Configuration" etc If you can see these you are in the right place. Now click on "EDIT" from the toolbar at the top. Then point to "New" and then over to QWord ( 64 Bit ) ....................You said earlier that your system is 64 bit A box will open in the right pane. Type in this ..... TdrDelay Click out of the box TdrDelay should remain. Click on it again to highlight ............ then click on EDIT > Modify In the Value Data box change the 0 for 5 .....then click OK The TdrDelay value in the right pane should now show 5 This gives the hardware longer to process data before the TDR monitor kicks in and restarts it. You can change the 5 to a bigger number if you wish. The 5 = 5 seconds. DO NOT make any other changes as the Registry controls the whole system.
