Having problems opening up links from Windows Live Messenger

Hello Again Guys,

 

I have recently notice that everytime i log into my pc and go online when i go and see what emails i have in my Windows messenger and open one email up and there is a link to goto site or view something on email, it does not do this and i have to go into task manager and end this funtion and have to re-boot or restart pc for it to start working and it will do this 9 times out of 10, any advice ?

 

I have Window XP service pack 2, and have BT as my isp.

Well i`m back what a nightmare tried to open both mails you set me and nothing the second made by processor running at between 79-100% very scary, but then whe i received email telling me i had response from it did try and goto page but processors were running so high it took way too long.

A base email client, especially web based should not suck the life out of your resources Alpha.

 

What other programs do you have in your start up list?

Do you use IE6 or IE7?

 

You don't have to list all those msconfig items, as you can download a program called HijackThis that will list them. I'm also interested in seeing what else the log shows.

 

Download the HijackThis Installer from:

Run the program and click on Scan Only. Please copy and paste that log back here.

Seriously, the log just shows your startup and running programs. You have quite a few needless startup items, but before we address that, try an IE7 "Reset":

Before you do the Reset (it's easy), click on "Restore Advanced Settings". After both are completed, restart the computer and try some links.

Later today I'll post what you can remove from msconfig for a much "snappier" system.

 

BTW- Your log shows that you haven't made your Recovery Cd's. That's a priority. Go to Start>Programs>HP>Create recovery cd's.

If you're only using SuperAntiSpyware's free version, then go into it's preferences and uncheck "Start when Window's starts.

 

Go to msconfig as Wolfey posted. Scroll up and down the list and uncheck everything but your security software and the following:

 

Jusched

Reminder

PS2

Recguard

 

Click Apply>OK, and restart when prompted. Put a check in "Don't show me this again" when you see the message that you've used the system startup utility.
