bj43cj47 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Hello all & A Happy New Year, My printer the HP D2400 has seemingly gone kaput. Upon investigating on the help button, I'm getting a solution that's saying "it's possible that the type of USB in use is not compatible with the laptop" this is after countless pages I've printed off over the years?? It came up with a number that was & I'm not sure this is correct from memory, that an 002 may not be compatible with a 003 USB port, or some such message. I'm at a complete loss to understand what the problem can be. I get the usual "noises" when I fire up the printer as it readies itself for doing its job, but after instruction to print, nothing happens. Any advice, apart from scrap it would be appreciated. PS. In the past, I've usually bought cartridges from a company called IJT who are offering a free printer on the proviso cartridges are purchased from them. Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Hi and a Happy New Year to you and your family :) 002 may not be compatible with a 003 USB port, or some such message. Some USB ports transfer data faster than others. USB 3.0 is faster than USB 2.0 You could have one or other ( or both ) on your system. If you plug a device that is designed for USB 2.0 into a 3.0 port then it just operates at the slower speed. The faster 3.0 port is "backwards compatible" with the slower device. As you have been using the printer with no problem for long enough - this is not going to be a problem. Have you tried other devices ( external-hard-drive for instance ) in the ports just to make sure they work ? bj43cj47 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks for the reply Ken. This is going to sound pretty silly. This last w/end I bought a USB laptop LED lamp from the £ shop, yes I know, you get what you pay for, but it does work. Is it just possible that that has bu**ered up the port. The other port is occupied with a USB wireless adaptor, I use that because the SKY router wont link to the laptop. I've tried switching these, but still no joy. I've just transferred some piccies from the camera with no problem. Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 is it just possible that that has bu**ered up the port. If other devices are working on the port then it would appear to be OK. after instruction to print, nothing happens. Have you tried re-installing the drivers for the printer ? Have you tried printing a Test Page ? The manual for your printer is here - click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! bj43cj47 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 I have a manual although the link is much more in depth, many thanks. I'm away for a few days & will probably re-install when I get back before trying all other options. I'll post up what results I get. Cheers BeeJay Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 OK - no rush :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
bj43cj47 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Tried running the driver again, but no joy. So decided to remove the printer from the laptop, but going to the add/delete programmes & highlighting the one to remove, but wouldn't remove it. Message saying the HP un-installer has stopped. So I'll just have to get another printer & hope it doesn't interfere. But strange why it wouldn't un-install. Edit. There was 6 HP related wotsits on the "programmes/features" page, I've managed to remove just one, trying to remove the rest results in the message above. Edited January 7, 2015 by bj43cj47 Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I know it sounds silly, but sometimes for the uninstaller to work correctly, the printer needs to be plugged in, you then disconnect it after it has uninstalled. However, if that still will not uninstall it via the Windows add/remove system you can try either Revo uninstaller or Wise Program uninstaller, they both have a forced remove facility. This is an automatic download for Revo uninstaller (The download starts straight away) :- http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php This is the link to the site for the Wise uninstaller :- http://www.wisecleaner.com/wiseuninstallerfree.html In both cases, while installing, please check carefully and remove any ticks in boxes for unwanted softwares such as tool bars, so called free virus scans, or other unwanted junk. If offered a choice of custom install use it as that is where you will find the junk to untick boxes. Unfortunately, junkware inclusion is becoming all too common with free software as the junkware vendors pay for the privilege, therefore financing the free software. Nev. bj43cj47 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Hmmm tried the first link, but all I got was a blank page. So I clicked a link that said see all downloads & the revo was at the top with a red cross against it? Quote
KenB Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Try this link - click here Scroll down for the free version. The link Nev supplied would be an auto-download. You may find it in your Downloads folder. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
bj43cj47 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Okay Ken & Nev, thanks for all your help, but I've given up on the printer, it is 7yrs old. So I been looking at printers & ended up on the HP site having seen some HP wireless models with scanner, copier etc. from Argos. But talking to HP about the model I'd seen, they said it's obsolete & that they would do a decent deal on a printer that has wireless with scanner & copier that would suit my needs & cheaper. So I'm happy with the outcome & should have it within 48hrs free P&P. Incidentally when I asked about the inks, they are also cheaper than at Argos!! Pity the ones for the D2400 aren't compatible as I've got a set of new B & C ones on stand-by. (eBay springs to mind) Anyway, thanks again for your help. And I'm seriously looking forward to putting my hammer to good use tomorrow. BeeJay:o Edited January 7, 2015 by bj43cj47 Quote
