Crewey Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Hi guys, I am new to the forum, but wondered if anybody could help. I have recently bought a PC with an Asrock Alivenf6gvsta Motherboard and AMD Phenom Quad core processor. I switched the hard drive from my other PC into this one and it seems to be working, however it is very slow. It had 2 Gig of Ram in it, so I upgraded and now have 10 Gig.( 1x2Gig in slot 1 and 2x4 Gig in slots 3 & 4) Slot 2 won't recognise any memory! The 10 Gig is recognised in the Bios, but not in the Windows System Tab. The machine is so slow it's painful, and the extra RAM does not appear to have made any difference at all! Any advice would be gratefully recived. Thanks Dave Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Hi Dave, which operating system do you have on that hard drive? If only of 32 bit, it won't work with any more than 4GB. Till you get back to us with that info, remove all the RAM then put just one of the 4GB sticks back in and see what happens then. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Can I install a 64 bit version over the top without losing everything on my hard drive? Cheers Dave Quote
KenB Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hi I switched the hard-drivefrom my other PC into this one and it seems to be working, however it is very slow. This could be your problem. If the motherboard is different from the original m/board associated with the hard-drive that you have used there may well be driver problems - hence the slowness. [ this is assuming that you have not installed a new version of Windows ] 32 bit Operating-Systems will only utilise about 3.5 GB RAM - the rest is wasted apart from about 0.5 GB that could be used with on-board video. Nev suggested putting just one module back in to test. Do this and let us know how you get on. Crewey Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Hi, I have reduced it to one 4gig stick, but it's still the same. Is there any way I can update the motherboard drivers or bios so that I am using the correct drivers? I don't want to have to reinstall everything on my hard drive as this will take me weeks! Thanks Dave Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hi Dave, lets have a bit more info about the machine please, Is it a custom made computer, either for you ar someone else, and if so did it have any motherboard disks with it? did it come with or without a hard drive already in it? If it did come with a hard drive what sort of operational speed did it have with that drive? Also can you tell us the make and model of the hard drive that you put into it too. Knowing answers to those questions will help us a lot. Thanks, Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Crewey Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Hi Nev, it is a custom made job that I picked up second hand. It came with a hard drive in it with Vista Business Edition on it. I swapped it out and got rid. I replaced it with the HDD from my old dual core computer running Windows 7 Ultimate (as I didn't want to lose all of my installed programmes). It is an Hitachi Deskstar 80GB drive (7200 rpm). There are no motherboard disks, but the Asrock website has some downloads. Hope this helps :-) Dave Quote
KenB Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 , but the Asrock website has some downloads. All I could find were drivers related to XP and Vista. Nothing related to Win7. click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
