curiousgeorge Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Hi Ken no its a second hand one its when its idle the time limit can alter probably between 15 and 30 mins Quote
curiousgeorge Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 hes just informed me it shut down after 3 mins Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 If it shuts down when it is idle then this is probably a Power Option. There are two options ..... "On Battery" ....."Plugged In" Take a look here - click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Hi, so when it is plugged into the mains via the power supply/charger it is OK, however once removed from the power supply/charger it soon fails, is that correct? It could well be as Ken mentioned that it is the power saving mode. However being a second hand laptop it could also be a near dead battery. Laptop batteries don't last for ever, they will only take so many charge and discharge cycles. Add to that if the previous owner kept the power on it all the time, that tends to shorten the life of the battery even quicker. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? curiousgeorge Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Thanks guys I now have the laptop a my house it appears it won't even power up when not plugged in Quote
KenB Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hi George Looks like a dead battery as Nev suggested. :( Is there an LED to indicate that the battery is charging ? A replacement battery for that would be about £55 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! curiousgeorge Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Hi ken there is yes when its plugged in Quote
KenB Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hi George If the charging LED is on .....but nothing in the battery then I think you can assume that the battery is scrap. I am using a Win 8.1 laptop at the moment and the battery life is less than an hour .....and getting less. With any laptop the battery life is finite. The older it is the shorter the time that it will run off the battery. It is exactly the same with a car battery. They die when they are 5 - 6 years old and need replacing otherwise they let you down :( A local tech may be able to test it for you for a small fee.
