Osprey Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) last 2 days ... on PC shutdown get the 'installing updates 1-5 message" then it shuts down OK On next start up , goes though several screen, including one whicb says applyinv 1156 ... (too fast to read) reboots again then starting window again ... this time get the start up music then eventually get the : Preparing to configure windows - do not turn off your computer Left for more than 30 mins ... goes no further .... If I switch off and it asks which option on restart .. I choose safe mode ... it starts, gives a quick message something along lines on updates failed to apply, reboots into normal mode and works OK. As it has happened last 3 times .... assuming I many be getting in a loop .... Is there a fix ? PC is W7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 Last update I can see is security update 17 Dec KB3025390 nothing shows after that date Edited January 17, 2015 by Osprey Quote
KenB Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hi For the moment ....turn Auto Updating off. Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Windows Update. Then try installing the updates manually ....one at a time. [ assuming there are not too many :) ] From the same path [ above ] you should be able to click on "check for updates" Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Osprey Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 I don't have a control panel entitled "System & Security" .. just the standard W7 ultimate control panels. I do have "Windows Update icon" which gets me to where I think you need me to be. I can see that following updates are failing: Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3021674) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3019215) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3022777) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3020388) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3023266) Obviously this group of updates repeats many times, one set for each boot up. Is there any sequence I should be installing them in, and how do I install them manually ? Quote
Osprey Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 I turned off auto install .. setting it to download only and ask for install Then installed each of the above one at a time with reboot after each one .. and all installed OK ? Run Microsoft Mr Fix it ... but no faults found Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hi, if all installed OK by doing them one at a time, all you can do now is see what happens at the next reboot. For what its worth, I always have windows updates set to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". However that is only so I can check them out first. I wouldn't normally recommend that setting for folks who aren't at least slightly clued up! Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. KenB Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 installed each of the above one at a time with reboot after each one .. and all installed OK This is good to hear. I am not sure why this happens ....but it does....quite often. You may want to go back and reset it so that updates are installed automatically.
