sven Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Hi all, I,m posting this here as I think it's a mobo issue rather than a cpu issue. When I boot my pc it sometimes has the cpu at 90 C! And sometimes it's only 40 C ( normal) everytime I have been into Bios the cpu temp reads 86 C, that's everytime! Constantly reproducible so I think that's broken. I have used cpu HW monitor to check the temps. This doesn't happen all the time 1 in 3 boots ish but it shouldn't be happening at all. I'm someone can shed light on this for me, as a new mobo means new windows( it's been activated twice) hardware, gigabyte GA-x79-UP4 mobo ref 1.1 I7 4930k cpu corsair h60 cooler sorry if this is disjointed as I'm on an iPad. KenB Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Hi, I assume that your case is dust free ? Pay particular attention to the CPU fan and heatsink. [ I know that you have probably done this in the past - but it is worth checking :) ] Did you use the old CPU / heatsink on the installed m/board ? If so - it may be worth taking the heatsink off - thoroughly cleaning the old thermal paste off using rubbing alcohol or methylated spirit [ any pharmacy ] and replace the thermal paste. You only need a pea-sized amount .....spread this very thinly using something like the edge of a credit card. Does it perform any better if you leave the side panel off ? sven Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Hi KenB. I bought this computer about 6 weeks back and everything was running fine until a day or so ago. So, I haven't assembled it myself. I'm going to try replacing the paste tomorrow(day off) and i have also ordered another cooler, Hydro 212 evo, but thats a few days away. At first I thought maybe the pump had gone on the H60, the fan is maxed on boot! how would I check that? Maybe it is being a bit "temperamental" I was thinking mobo because of the static temp reading in the Bios, the case is a Corsair 600T with good airflow and dust free, the side panel makes no difference on or off, the temps of everything else are really low 20/25 C. With that, how would I check if the pump is broken on the H60? and how how would i check if the headers are broke on the mobo? I don't have a 2nd computer to swap parts over and it doesn't happen all the time. Quote

I think I'm right that Windows is tied to the mobo, if so I used it on my old computer and this one, can I use it again if I have to change this mobo? Its been running great for the past 5 1/2 weeks, no temp issues at all Quote

Can you download and run Speccy please - click here You want the FREE version. After it gathers the system info click on File > Publish Snapshot Post the link it produces here please. It will give us temperatures and other information. You may need to do a couple at different times. What are you doing when the CPU hits 90 deg ? sven Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 I'm hoping so, just been rebooting when I get a chance and so far it hasn't reappeared. I never re-pasted either and I've got a new cooler on order, not sure what to do with that. I've taken the case fans off the mobo and plugged them into the fan controller in the case and tidied the rest of the wires up. Only gave it a cursory check inside when I bought it 'cos it was all working. Fingers crossed its fixed. Quote
