Ray1000 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I use Microsoft Outlook (Outlook.com) for my Hotmail emails ... the one that used to be Outlook Express ... I think? I was wanting to transfer the text from 20 or so emails in one of my Outlook folders into My Documents so I could transfer them onto a CD or something to save along with some associated paperwork. Looking at Google it seems a simple process but I think they are all referring to "Outlook" as in the Outlook that comes with MS Office. I have MS Office 2007 Pro and just put the disc in to add the Outlook ... I normally only have Word and Excel on the computer. Started it up but it's failing to find my Hotmail. Q. Is it possible to copy the from Outlook.com ? How does Office Outlook compare with Outlook.com when using Hotmail? Thank you Ray Quote
KenB Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Hi Ray I was wanting to transfer the text from 20 or so emails I don't use MS Outlook but try the following .... Open the email that you want to copy. Highlight all of the text > then CTRL + C to copy. Open Word and then CTRL + V will paste the text into the document. Save it in the usual way. Ray1000 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks Ken, I realise I could copy the text from an individual email but there was about twenty of them in a particular folder I wanted to transfer. I understand it's possible to do it when you are using the Outlook that comes with MS Office ... as opposed to the web based Outlook.com ... it doesn't seem there are many people using it. Apparently there are all the icons across the top of the page you usually find in Word ... File ... Save ... Save as ... and so on. I'll have another go at getting my Office Outlook to see my Hotmail address. Ray Quote
KenB Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Hi Ray I found this - written by a Micro-soft adviser in response to a similar problem to yours. We're sorry for the delayed response. Managing folders in Outlook interface is currently not available. Seems odd ....but they should know what they are talking about. There were suggestions that included right clicking on the folder and looking through the options. I don't know if this is an option ...I would assume that you would have tried this already. Ray1000 Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Hi Ken, When you right click a folder the only options are New Sub Folder, Mark as read, Rename and Delete. I'll copy them separately for now and hope something crops up in the future. Ray Quote

Plastic Nev Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Sorry Ray, I can't offer much myself as I went with Windows Live Mail when I got Windows 7, it is basically the follow up of the old Outlook Express and works fine for me. However I also cannot copy an entire mail folder to a different place, only one mail at a time in that as far as I can find or see. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Ray1000 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Thank you Nev, As soon as I get time I'll try MSOffice Outlook again and let you know how I get on. Ray Quote
Plastic Nev Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 The whole thing about the name Outlook seems a bit confusing any way Ray, the old Outlook Express, sort of became Windows Live Mail, have a look here :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_Mail Then what was firstly MSN Hotmail, just became Hotmail which in turn became Outlook.com http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlook.com Microsoft Outlook however is a slightly different and complete Personal Information Manager which will also serve as an E Mail application. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Outlook Nev. Ray1000 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Yes Nev, I think I've been on them all bar MS Outlook at one time or another. Ray Quote
RandyL Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I don't use Outlook but most of Microsoft's products are similar so I can think of a couple options Here are the basics. 1. Use the file>import/export function and save as a .pst file. Only outlook will be able to actually open a pst file. 2. Navigate to the message stores folder which is a hidden folder. The actual messages will probably have generic alphanumeric names. The path should be similar to C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook for Vista . Where does Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 save my information and configurations? These options won't save as text but you can save them for safe keeping on a CD.
