Hafoi Bin Ereafower Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Difficult I know in today's all seeing world when app's of all descriptions follow you around and can change, install and send you stuff you didn't want in the first place. I don't like posting stuff about me ont t'web or to people providing a service even if they do say "we won't use it for nefarious purposes". I've had a Live mail account with dear old Microsoft for years now and from time to time I've been asked to provide a mobile or other number - or another mail address as a security back-up - - and usually I've found a way round not providing it to get into my inbox - - - lately that's proved impossible. Of course I've been to the Microsoft "help" area and can't find the answer I want - - don't be silly I hear from the "god's" they want what they want and won't brook anything less. So what to do - what to do ? - then I remembered those very nice chaps at FreePCHelp so here I am with my little conundrum. Do I have to provide my inside leg measurement to MS, was your Grandmother a communist and such information (like my mobile number) or is there a way round it ? Your's HBE Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I am running the Windows live mail and have never had that question asked by Microsoft. Some other odd websites, perhaps, which I have ignored. So I am puzzled as to what the mesage is from Microsoft regarding that. They can't have a mobile phone number anyway as I don't have a mobile phone! So, can you please let us see the message you got, either copy and paste to your reply or if possible a screen shot, let's see if it is genuine. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? RandyL Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I might have some minor insight into this due to the fact I have a Live ID that is associated with an Xbox Live Gold membership and I participate in the Bings Rewards Program. Since financial information is tied to these and my grandson changed the settings when he forgot his password I had to investigate a bit. The first thing to do is check or change your account settings. Sign in to your Live ID mail such as Hotmail or outlook.com. Click on your account name at top right and then click "Account settings". Scroll down and under "Security & privacy" click on "Manage advanced security". From here you can add, remove or change your options. Also scroll down to the "Trusted devices" section and follow the instructions there. Trusted devices: FAQ If you delete your cookies on your computer that may remove it from trusted devices though. I just use a secondary email address as a backup as I don't have a mobile device. I know I have not answered your question exactly but I hope I pointed you in the right direction. Hafoi Bin Ereafower Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Hi Randy, Tried all three - and get redirected each time to the screen pasted above - maybe I should just create a dummy e-mail account just for this purpose - and give them that ? HBE Quote
Hafoi Bin Ereafower Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 Gnashing of teeth here chaps as I've weakened and given them a mobile number - mind you it's an old Nokia which I keep purely as back up to the back up so not one of the "smart phone" generation and it's rarely used these days - - so that makes me feel a bit better. I did consider creating another e-mail account but they too wanted my inside leg measurement so giving MS an old number seemed the best way to go. Thanks for your help chaps. HBE Quote
