I run Windows 8.1 with my desktop PC.

Of late just the odd time I'm getting a white screen when I try to go to go to a website via one of my desktop icons ( this is not always happening with the same icon/site) I can easily get out of it by on my keyboard pressing windows key plus letter X which takes me to 'start menu where I click on Desktop which removes white screen and desktop is back.

I am worried that the situation could worsen having read that 'White Screen' is also signature of a virus which is associated with a Ransome ware malware/virusus.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks

Ray

Hi Ray

This could be a corrupt cookie.

Try the following:

Windows Key + S ...........type in ...... internet options .............hit Enter

Click Internet Options again if you get further options.

On the screen that shows after this make sure the "General" tab is selected.

Then click "Delete"

The default should be the top three boxes selected. [ one of which is "Cookies" ]

Delete these 3.

You will find that if you use auto-login on sites like this one for instance, you will need to sign in again with your username and password.

Hi Ray

Have you run Malwarebytes ......just to check?

Don't forget to update it before you run the scan.

erratic problems are always the most difficult to pinpoint.

I did both Malware Bytes and AV scan yesterday so yes it has happened since but only once which is a good improvement.
