jontye Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Hi Seedy21, I'm contacting using my laptop this time, because when I tried following your instructions my wife's machine a threw wobbly, losing the wi-fi facility and I'm having a problem getting it switched back on, tried the F4 + F2 keys numerous times without success. The laptop doesn't have a wired connection other than an ethernet cable, which, at the momemt, I don't know how to connect. I will get back to you as soon as I get the wi-fi connection up and running. Jontye. Quote

jontye Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Hi Seedy21, I've carried out steps 1 to 4 and the laptop seems to be responding much better, My wife is going to use it for the next few days and see how it goes. I will post the outcome. When I ran the MS FIXIT it found that the 'Data Execution Prevention' was disabled and actioned a fix, so that may have been the problem. As I posted a few days ago we are unable to switch on the wi-fi connection and are having to use the ethernet cable, do I need to start a new thread for this ? Regards Jontye. Quote

jontye Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Hi Seedy21, Firstly, I've now sorted the wi-fi problem, reset it using the Microsoft fixit facility. The laptop has been running much better but still had a couple of problems with ' Page not Responding' so I've uninstalled IE 11 and reinstalled it using your instructions, we will use it for the next couple of days and let you know the outcome. Regards Jontye. Quote
jontye Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 Hi Seedy21, We've run the laptop for a couple of days and it is much the same, not quite as bad as it has been but we still have problems such as, Taking well over a minute to open a site page, Not responding on a number of times, inparticular on Paypal, sometimes eventually responding other times having to use the recover page option, Once when using GMail a message popped up 'something not right, having trouble connecting to google' Even during playing a game of 'Spider' 'not responding message' appeared. Strange that we don't have the problems all of the time Is it possible that it's faulty hardware ? Regards Jontye Quote
RandyL Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 FOR SEEDY21 ONLY: Sorry for butting in. I was just wondering about a couple things that may or may not be relevant. In the past I have seen slow page loading issues on some but not all computers running Internet Explorer 11 on Windows Vista. Perhaps trying Firefox or reverting to Internet Explorer 10 may shed some light. I saw some errors relating to Trusteer Rapport. If this was or still is installed maybe it's related. You mentioned that MS Word was slow to open. Are other programs slow to open? Does it take quite some time to boot up? You don't have a fast processor or a lot of RAM but it should be enough. If RAM or the hard drive is failing it can cause some slow issues. Since this is a HP computer it may have built in hardware diagnostics that you can run. the machine is not running any faster. I opened it today to create a document in Word. It took 1 and a half minutes to load Word, but before it did, all the desktop icons went blank then slowly re-loaded. I then clicked to go on-line and it took one minute and 30 seconds to load my home page, followed by a minute aned 20 seconds to load this blog Please do not make any changes unless instructed to do so by seedy21. jontye Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Hi Seedy21, When we first had the problem of slow running I checked for any recent installed programmes that were not downloaded by us, this Rapport was the one I noticed. I tried unistalling it, but it refused to move, so we contacted Rapport help and they, eventually, giuded us through the unistall, although the programme was unistalled, according to Rapport, the listing was still there. Rapport assured us that the programme had been unistalled and the listing would disappear from our list of programmes, as you can see it is still there, I've just tried to unistall again and I'm getting this error message 'Error opening installation log file.Verify the specified log file location exists and is writable' There is no 'File size' showing against the listing just install date, 7/4/15 and version number 3.5.1208.34 I will not move onto step 2 until I hear from you, there is no urgency for your reply as I'm away until the back end of the week, Regards Jontye. jontye Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Hi Seedy 21. Sorry for such a long gap between your last post and this one. We had a family bereavement so not been doing much on the pc. I followed your instructions and created a new user account. Since then the machine initially seemed improved with some 'not responding messages' but quickly followed by a response. However, it is now back to square one. Sometimes it takes 2 whole minutes to load the home page. My wife gets regular 'not responding' messages, sometimes followed by a website then quickly responding but other times when it just doesn't respond. Tonight we have also had two occassions when the machine froze. The first time she was simply going to her home page (Google search) and she ended up having to switch off and start again. The second time she was trying to get onto JD Sports when it froze completely so she waited. After 4 minutes the clock jumped forward 4 minutes and the site started to load up. Maybe we need a new laptop? Quote
seedy21 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 HI Jontye, Can you let me know what Make and Model your laptop is? I would like to see if the unit has some Hardware Diagnostics tools we can use. KenB Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Hi Jontye Seedy asked me to see if I can add anything to this thread as he tells me that your wife's machine is clean of malware. Sorry for the slow reply - I have been away since last week and have only just picked up his message. From the logs it seems your wife's machine is running Windows-7 - is this the case ? Try the following: Shut down normally. Switch on and constantly tap F8 [ about once per second ] You will get a list of options [ Advanced Startup ] Select Safe Mode with Networking [ this should give you internet access ] The graphics will look a bit odd - this will revert to normal when you next boot up. Try opening Word etc . Try opening web pages. Let me know if it is "normal" I noted: It took 1 and a half minutes to load Word,. This is not good. Are you happy to locate the RAM Modules and remove them if the above has no effect ? jontye Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Hi KenB, Yes the machine is running Windows 7, I followed your instructions and it took about 25 seconds to open the desk top in safe mode, but didn't connect to the internet and I couldn't get it to do so manually, Tried to open 'word', left it for over 3 minutes and nothing happened, couldn't try opening a web page because of the lack of internet connection. I'm happy to remove the RAM MODULES under instruction, I've done so before on my own laptop. Regards Jontye. Quote
KenB Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Hi again It seems that you have the same problem in Safe Mode - so we can start looking a bit further. Your RAM is a little awkward to get at [ many are located under a small removable panel ] You will have to remove the whole of the base panel. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OaoTLJMyNo Remove the battery. You do not have to remove the keyboard or go prising with a screwdriver. If you watch carefully - there are 5 screws in the base - and then it actually slides to release. Access the RAM. Hopefully there will be two modules. Take one module out - leave the other in place. Replace the panel and the battery - boot up and try it. If it is still the same swap the RAM modules over and try the other one. Don't forget to remove the battery first. Let me know how you get on. jontye Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Hi KenB, I've followed your instructions regarding the RAM MODULES, they were pretty easy to remove. I ran a simple comparision test, the rusults are listed below. With both RM's in place, To open desk top and internet access 73 seconds To open word programme 20 seconds To open home page (Google search) 12 seconds To opem web page 13 seconds. With the 1gb RM only in place , To open desk top with internet access 30 seconds To open word programme 65 seconds To open home page ( Google search) 56 seconds To open web page 50 seconds. With the 2gb RM only in place, To open desk top with internet access 30 seconds To open word programme 15 seconds To open home page (Google search) 11 seconds To open web page 18 seconds. Jontye. KenB Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Hi Jontye It isn't your RAM that is causing the problem - not unless both are playing up ....which is unlikely. Download "Seatools for Windows" from here. click here Make sure you get the Windows and not the DOS version. Install and run it. It will check your hard-drive. Any fails indicate a replacement drive is needed. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! jontye Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Hi Ken, I installed and run the Seatools for Windows programme on my wifes laptop, within about 20 seconds a message appeared ' A problem has been detected and window will close down to prevent damage to your computer' it then say's to restart the computer which I can't do because non of the controls are working, I'm going to have to remove the battery to get it closed down. There is a Technical Information message which reads, ' *** STOP: 0x0000003B ( 0x00000000C0000005, 0FFFFF80002EC7052,0xFFFFF8800E8C4950,0x0000000000000000) Dumping physical memory to disc: Physical memory dump complete. KenB Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Hi Jontye If you get the machine to boot up try running Seatools again. It could have been co-incidence. You could also try Seatools in Safe Mode - Tap F8 after switching on If it crashes again download and install "WhoCrashed" from here - click here You may need to scroll down the page - select the free option. After installing just click on "Analyze" then scroll down the page for the recent crash analysis. This is not always conclusive - but it may give us an idea of the cause. jontye Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Hi KenB, Run the Seatools download again and the same thing happened, it crashed, tried it in safe mode and nothing at all happened, it wouldn't even open. So I've run the 'WhoCrashed' tool and the results are attached. Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.
