I'm running win 7 on a amd FX - 4100 Quad-core with a radeon 6670. While playing PoE the screen went black for a short while then it came back stating that video was saved or words to that effect. When I checked the action Center I Found this :-A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

Locale ID: 1033

Which I took as my g-card was on its way out and I needed a new one, But since then I've also have had windows rebooting during the game or watching utube. I ran "Whocrashed" and found :- crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\082912-35147-01.dmp

This was probably caused by the following module: atkdisplowfilter.sys (ATKDispLowFilter+0x2740)

Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA80048774E0, 0xFFFFF88004110740, 0x0, 0x2)

Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atkdisplowfilter.sys

product: ASUSTeK Display Lower Filter

company: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

description: ATKDispLowFilter

Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.

A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: atkdisplowfilter.sys (ATKDispLowFilter, ASUSTeK Computer Inc.).

Google query: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. VIDEO_TDR_ERROR.

Now are the two things related i.e. if I got a new G-card would things go back to normal (me dying to much in game), or is there another answer.

Any help would be great

Thankyou

mercycle

Hi

As you suggest - this may be connected to your graphics-card.......in particular the drivers.

Start > type in ....devmgmt.msc .....Enter

Click the + next to Display Adapters

Are there any yellow exclamation marks of red Xs ?

What does it say is listed there ?

Is your machine an Asus ?

Either way - Make and model number please ?

Have you tried updating the drivers for your graphics-card ?

Do you have another card that you can try in place of the AMD one ?

It's not an Asus, it is a bundle from aria.com :- 4.40 gigahertz AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core

256 kilobyte primary memory cache

2048 kilobyte tertiary memory cache

64-bit ready

Multi-core (2 total)

Hyper-threaded (4 total)

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-970A-UD3

Bus Clock: 220 megahertz

BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F3 08/31/2011

As to having another card the answer is no, but I was going to get a :-

[h=1]Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 G1 Gaming 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics[/h]

if I needed to change cards.

Hi

Not an Asus - this surprises me as your error messages point to AsusTek.

I am not at home until Monday - and the connection here is terrible ( keeps dropping out )

I would like to find up-to-date drivers for your Graphics-Card and have you try installing them to see if that makes any difference.

I will have to leave this until I have a decent connection.

If you can get hold of the drivers from the manufacturers site ( don't use any others ) give these a try.

Otherwise I will pick this up again on Monday.

If I have not replied - just add a post here as a reminder :)

Hi - at home now with a decent connection :)

It Lists AMD Radeon HD 6670

The drivers for your card are here: - click here -

There is an "Auto Detect" that you may wish to try.

This may, however, detect the drivers that you have and tell you that they are ok without re-installing.

We need to try re-installing the drivers.

Hi, till Ken can get back to you, although it says driver fault, it may also be an overheating problem, so I have to ask is the heat sink and fan on the graphics card clean of dust.

It may be of help to Ken if you could post a Speccy report.

Download and install Speccy from Piriform using this automatic download link :-

http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download/standard

Once downloaded, install it from wherever the download went to, watch for unwanted extra's such as toolbars and remove ticks in associated boxes, if asked to choose between standard or custom install, use the custom install as that is where you will find the unwanted junk to remove the ticks. Though in this instance I think speccy is fairly clean of junkwares.

Once it is installed, open the program and run the system for a few hours. After that or at any sign of instability, click on "File" top left of Speccy, then select "Publish snapshot" That will then give you a URL address which is a full record of temperatures, voltages, and other useful data, and post that URL address here please. There is nothing personal disclosed in that URL report, just specific machine data.

Can you supply the link please?

This will give us all of the system information which may help.

Hi

Thanks for the Speccy link - it is helpful.

Mid 60s is fine

86C is getting pretty hot.

Some suggest that 90 - 100C is possible but there is nothing to suggest that your 86C is a max - it could well get hotter the longer you play.

Take a look at the card itself and make sure that there is no build-up of dust on the fan in particular.

Try running the game with the side of the case off and see if it is a circulation problem.

I will not be able to post for a few days :(

Took card out gave it a good clean , and done the same to all fans in case and filters. So far on "Path of Exile" it topped at 55c and it has not rebooted as of yet. Might still change card to the GTX 960 so am able to play better games. Will add to thread again mid-week.

Thankyou for the help.

Hi, looking like there may be a problem with that graphics card, changing it for the new one you want to try is the only way to be sure of that.

However, it is very important that your present power supply can handle it, as Ken said it needs to be at least 400Watts and is always best to be a bit higher of 500 or 600 watts.

Do you know the power rating of the present power supply?

Hi

As Nev says - the only real test for a graphics-card is to swap it for a known good one.

Is this a possibility ?

I don't want to suggest that you buy a new card only to find that you have the same problem. :)

I know of no one who has a card as (powerful) as the one I'm having Trouble with. I must admit I want to upgrade to the GTX anyway as it with play most games at 60fps.
