Nine months ago I installed MS Office 97 on my new computer Windows 8.1, no problem.

Lately I have been having a few issues with the above therefore uninstalled it ready for a new install, problem being that now my DVD player will not read the Disk, nothing.

Why would that be?

Have tried MS Money 97 that originally installed, same problem!!

Insert Trainz 2006, that opens no problem.

Hi,

I am not surprised you are having issues - Office 97 is not supposed to be compatible with Win 8.

Nor is Office 2003

Can the disk be read on a different machine ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

I installed them 9 months ago and they have run fine since no problem, it is only recently that I have had a problem and I believe that it is my fault for removing something I should not!!

Unable to try that, but as they are so old and no longer compatable I will ditch them and use a free download offering.

I happily use Open Office but became so frustrated with dodgy downloads, I bought it on a CD from eBay for less than a couple of quid including postage - Well worthwhile!

I use Open Office too - completely free.

It is compatible with MS Office and will open any files that you presently have.

I have found that if you save a text document in the default format MS Office can't open it.

It is simple enough to save as MS compatible [ .doc ] though :)
