I am running Windows 7 at present and I'm now sure if this is a good thing to upgrade to or not...it says you can cancel but I am having trouble doing so...all help and advice much appreciated. Woodworker Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Here's a link you might find helpful: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10- If you are a novice with Windows 7, my advice is to stay with it - Windows 8.1 is a nightmare and I don't want another. I've installed Classic Shell which makes Windows 8.1 look like Windows 7 but I've no idea whether that would work with Windows 10. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted June 7, 2015 ExTS Admin Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) @H20 I am running Windows 7 at present and I'm now sure if this is a good thing to upgrade to or not...it says you can cancel but I am having trouble doing so...all help and advice much appreciated. This isn't a problem...... just don't install it when it's ready. I've changed my mind on one of my systems... I haven't bothered to cancel it, I just won't install it when it's ready. @Woodworker I've installed Classic Shell which makes Windows 8.1 look like Windows 7 but I've no idea whether that would work with Windows 10. There's no need for anything like Classic Shell on Win10. The start menu is very customizable. This is my ordinary start menu ( when the start key is pressed) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/start1_zpskynw5m18.png By clicking on the 'All Apps' button (bottom left) the list changes to an alphabetical list of all apps etc installed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Start2_zps9ohjwsij.png or... You can 'Unpin' all of the 'live tiles' and finish up with what some would call the old style start menu. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Unpin1_zpsvj44zgcw.png This way everyone is happy. :) BTW: All the colours can be changed to suit your own needs...... you're not stuck with the same colours that I use lol You could just add a few live tiles if required and have a smaller area used. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Start3_zpsjn2wmdfn.png Edited June 7, 2015 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
Plastic Nev Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Thanks from me about the desktop Starbuck, I detest tiles and much rather have an alphabetical list. Tiles just confuse me, just like when I go to the bathroom, I then wonder why I went there :D Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. H20 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks for the info, much appreciated. :) Found this when searching... http://www.windowscentral.com/how-remove-get-windows-10-app-pc It explains "How to remove the 'Get Windows 10' app from your PC and cancel your upgrade reservation"...I have followed the instructions but everyday the Windows 10 icon reappears and so does the upgrade KB3035583....is it ok to leave the program installed or does it need to be removed? Thanks. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 If you don't want the upgrade notification you need to hide that KB3035583 update. You system is probably set to automatically download and install updates, you need to change it to manual and not automatic to hide the update. First follow the instructions for uninstalling it Next is to go to the control panel, and Windows updates. In the left hand panel, select "Change settings" In the next page, click the drop down menu and select "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" Then click OK. Shortly afterwards, or when the system checks for updates, you will get the notification that there are updates to download and install. Click on the updates and the page changes to show you what they are. If more than one, find that KB3035583 and RIGHT click on it, then select "Hide this update" You can also go back and unhide the update KB3035583 at any time if you wish. Once done you can then change the system back to automatically download and install updates if you wish. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
