This computer has somehow become selective in what it will and wont read in the D: drive. It used to play anything I stuck in there including CD's. Now there are some DVD's and CD's it will not play. I have tried downloading other DVD drivers but it hasn't worked. I also tried un-installing its driver and letting it reinstall it but that didn't work either. It is set for region 2 but I had thought that it was all one region now. Those it does not render, play in a W7 machine that my wife has and will also play in a TV that has a DVD slot, so it's not the DVD's.

My machine has an ATAPI iHAS 124 E ATA Device.

My wife's machine has a Plus DVD + RW DL -8ATS ATA Device.

PS They are original disks, not copies.

Hi mij;

Disk drives do fail so that may be the problem. I had a CD drive once that started to fail and had trouble reading disks. It seemed to have the most trouble reading music CD's for some reason.

It is strange that both DVD's and CD's are experiencing issues at the same time.

Would it be possible to try your wife's combo drive in your computer? If that works then it would confirm that it is a faulty drive.

Hi

You could try deleting the Upper and Lower Filters from the registry.

[ saves me typing ! ]

You will just need to click on the Start > ...type in ......regedit .....ENTER

To "open the path" you click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then the > next to SYSTEM ......etc.

If anything is different after that then stop and ask.

If you decide to do this please be very careful and only do exactly what is described in the link.

The Registry is very sensitive :)

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

I have ordered another and will collect it tomorrow all being well.

It is only those two disks. One is a dvd of a pastelist painting the other is a cd of music. They both play in my wife's computer and the tv that has a disk option.

No this is very unlikely as her's is a completely different set up - screen, dvd and computer all in one.

I fitted it yesterday and I tried those two disks first. They both played - wonderful!

Problem solved.

Many thanks.

PS It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DE ATA Device not that that means much to me.
