[Solved] Mcfee Anti Virus install problem!!

Have been receiving the following message from my Mcfee Anti Virus:

McUICnt.exe - bad image, suggested solution is to uninstall then reinstall sftware.

 

 

Have uninstalled no problem but come to reinstall we get to a window which says scanninig for possible threats before reinstalling and an hour later nothing has changed it seems to be stuck there.

 

 

I have tried three times now to reinstall but get the same result, any ideas please.

It's been a long time since I used Mcafee and there are many versions but since no one else has posted yet I will.

 

Some antivirus programs want to do a scan before the final install to avoid viruses that know how to interfere with an installed antivirus program. Even though your used drive space is small it can still take a long time to do a full system scan. Try letting the scan run over night. I have waited 6 hours depending on the AV and type of scan but depending on the AV, used drive space and type of files to scan it could be more or less. An hour is very little time.

 

Since this is Windows 8.1 you could turn Windows Defender back on for now which is a full AV that comes with Windows 8. It's better than nothing and better than some.

 

Keep in mind that if Mcafee does install it will disable the built in Windows 8, Windows Defender so if you uninstall Mcafee you may need to turn Windows Defender back on.

I take it that McAfee came pre-installed on the system.

It did with my Win8.1 laptop...... that was the first program I removed.

There is better AV software out there.

As Randy said....

If you want to remove McAfee at any time....

Run the uninstaller and then download and run the McAfee uninstaller tool

 

If you decide to use the built in Win Defender.... you will need to uninstall McAfee.

McAfee was sold to Intel,

Intel then changed the name to Intel Security.

 

I had to smile when I read John McAfee's answer when asked what he thought of this:

I think that says it all.
