RustyKnight Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 After a week of problems with Windows 8.1 on my "convertible" HP laptop I decided it might be easier to get the Windows 10 upgrade. I've left the computer on for a few hours a couple of times over the weekend hoping it would download Windows 10 but I realised there's no easy way to see if it is actually downloading. Plastic Nev Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It comes in as a normal Windows update, so to ensure you know when it is ready to download you will need to at least temporarily re-set your Windows updates to manual. However you can download Windows 10 directly from the Microsoft site to short cut the process. Follow the instructions on this Microsoft page. :- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Starbuck Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I had the same problem with my laptop. No upgrade in sight. Use the link that Nev posted..... that's what I did, takes about 2 hours from start to finish. I would recommend uninstalling any Anti Virus protection you have before running the Media Creation Tool. Then reinstall it after Win10 has been installed. Quote Member of:UNITE
RustyKnight Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Thanks, I think I'll leave it a bit to see, I don't have a DVD drive on the computer. Quote [Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Ubuntu MATE, Linux Mint, Chromebook] [several Raspberry Pi running various versions of Raspbian]

Starbuck Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 You don't need any type of drive. That's only if you want to make a copy. Just download the media creation tool to the desktop and then click on it to run it. The first thing it asks you is: Do you want to update the computer or make a copy of the media files. Just select to update the Pc and away you go. If did this and found it very simple to do. Quote Member of:UNITE
