Hi all,

I have a persistent internet problem, It started on windows 8, however as I've now upgraded to windows 10, I assumed this was the best place to voice my issue.

Ever since I moved property, My internet has had an intermittent issue.

It is rather slow, when compared to my phone, and other devices that use the Wi-Fi, but more annoyingly it is constantly dropping out.

In chrome I get 4 errors, none more so than the other from what I can remember:

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED

Sometimes it is fine for an hour or so (apart from being constantly slower)

When it dies it automatically finds itself again after about 2 minutes.

It makes little to no difference if I disconnect/reconnect to the Wi-Fi

When it has no connection, my other devices still work fine on the Wi-Fi

My signal strength is excellent.

What I have tried so far:

Played around with firewall settings and any other program that could be restricting the internet.

Tried a new wireless card

Tried a USB dongle

Updated all drivers.

I recently reinstalled windows and had the same problem with no third-party software on the machine.

I am yet to try an Ethernet cable as my router is 20 meters away from my PC, however I can move my PC downstairs temporarily if need be.

I had the same setup in my previous property, just with a different router, and all was well.

Any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Numpty

Info #2

I've just remembered, if the connection has gone, windows doesn't display limited connectivity, but I think all it did in the troubleshoot (when I started it myself) is reset the adaptor. Its also hard to tell if that helps, as by the time it has worked its magic, the connection has normally fixed itself.

I guess I've got 2 problems, which may be the same thing:

1: Slow connection (10 Mbps, as opposed to 25 on other devices)

2: Intermittent connection

The connection may be throwing a wobbly non stop, causing the speed issue, and then dropping out for long enough causing the second problem, giving me mixed error messages.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to ExTS :)

I suspect that the router may be the cause of your problem.

I get this behaviour with my own system at home and have put up with it for some time now.

I know I need a replacement router.

I have also experienced problems at another location.

I couldn't use the wireless network with my laptop - everybody else was ok.

At the same location last week I could access the net. Reason: They had changed the router.

If you try using a cable I suspect that you will get a fast connection without dropping.

Wireless routers are a law unto themselves. :)

I assume that this is a desktop machine ( "tried a new wireless card" ) ?

Do other devices drop out if you use then in the exact location that the problem machine is sitting in ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
