RandyL Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Unbelievable. I have a perfectly good refrigerator that I can't find parts for even in this age of internet where I can search the world. A while back a good friend crafted a replacement handle out of brass and steel but now I have a rubber door seal that is splitting and I can't find a replacement seal anywhere. It's amazing that in this day and age of computers and the internet and technology that there is nothing that can help me that I can find. This is a serious issue as this is the refrigerator that holds all my beer. It's a great refrigerator otherwise. After all it's still working after 68 years. I think it might have many years left. I guess if I can't find a seal for my 1947 International Harvester refrigerator I'll just have to replace it with an exact duplicate that I have in the garage but it has a broken handle too. I'll have to swap that with my hand crafted handle. That's right I have 2 working International Harvester refrigerators built in 1947. It's too bad I can't keep a computer working that long. :):):):) Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. KenB Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I thought that my freezer that we have in the garage was doing well as we have had it 26 years at least. It was delivered on Christmas Eve at 8-00 am !! 68 years is amazing !! It is sad to have to scrap a perfectly good piece of equipment just because of a seal. RandyL Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 As a temporary measure I applied some silicone adhesive to the seal. That might give me ten more years at least. 26 years is a long time Ken. What brand is it? As we all know heat is one of the biggest killers of computers. Maybe computer manufacturers should consider fans made out of metal instead of plastic. Maybe even Freon based cooling systems instead of air cooled or water cooled. For that matter make a desktop slightly larger at the same time and it could double as a beer cooler. :) Computers are cool. Freon is cool. Beer should always be cool. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. KenB Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Silicon repair - good for at least 10 years I would say. :) Not sure of the make of our freezer. It was a cheap one! The lady got a bit upset when I didn't buy the additional insurance. Just think how much I have saved :) :) Computers have a built-in obsolescence I think. Text message to husband on a very cold day in January: Wife - Windows frozen !! Smart Husband's reply - no problem ...get warm water and pour over dry off with rag :) Wife - Computer completely F##*%% now !!!!
