gerald999 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hi everyone, not sure what is going on here and hope you may be able to help me. First of all may I state that I am not very experienced with computer procedures ok with the basic operations but that's about it. I have a HP 255G3 laptop secured by bullguard internet security and malwarebytes anti malware premium , the unit is approx. 6 months old and is not overloaded with data etc. I have noticed recently a significant slowing down of accessing sites and delays in responding to curser movements, typing words etc. I then received a phone call from an American lady stating that she was phoning from Microsoft to inform me that my computer had been hacked and that she needed to pass me onto one of her colleagues to sort it out, at this stage (rightly or wrongly) I informed her that as I was fully protected and not confident that I was speaking to Microsoft I did not want to pursue the matter any further. I did a 1471 to check the no. which came up as 0080006. Has anyone had a similar experience or can offer some advice as to how I can check this out. Thanks Gerald. Quote
Starbuck Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) Hi gerald I then received a phone call from an American lady stating that she was phoning from Microsoft to inform me that my computer had been hacked and that she needed to pass me onto one of her colleagues to sort it out, at this stage (rightly or wrongly) I informed her that as I was fully protected and not confident that I was speaking to Microsoft I did not want to pursue the matter any further. First off, well done. That was the correct reply. Microsoft will never phone you. There are a lot of these scams about. First of all may I state that I am not very experienced with computer procedures ok with the basic operations but that's about it. That's not a problem. If you are unsure of anything, just ask before continuing..... no matter how silly the question may seem. I have noticed recently a significant slowing down of accessing sites and delays in responding to curser movements, typing words etc. I doubt that you have been hacked, but we can take a look and try to pinpoint the cause for you. Note: There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool available. Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you are unsure what you're system bit type is..... click Here for help. For x32 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the downloaded icon to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frsticon_zpsdc3cbdc3.png When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frstdis_zps7f598f12.png Make sure that Addition.txt is selected at the bottom Press Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/newfrst_zpsa63ffa3d.png It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply also. If the Windows SmartScreen or your AntiVirus throw up a message about any of the tools we use..... just ignore the message and click to "Run anyway", http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/winmes_zps057aa5b0.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/winmes1_zpsee6b4776.png In your next reply, please submit: Both reports from FRST. Thanks. Edited November 3, 2015 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
gerald999 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Hi Starbucks. many thanks for your reply. Inadvertently I think I have solved my problem during the course of attempting to follow your instructions I came across my download folder and noticed I had downloaded three items from a company called Turbo tools ltd linked to speeding up your computer I have now deleted these and everything seems to be working normally why this should be I don't know. Thanks for your confirmation on the scamming issue and I now know my computer is 64 bit. If I have any further problems I will get back to you and thanks again for your help. Best regards Gerald. Starbuck Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I had downloaded three items from a company called Turbo tools ltd linked to speeding up your computer Not... Turbo your PC?? That would explain a lot. (basically AdWare.... PuP's) Although the system is running better, there is a tool that I would suggest. This checks and removes Adware programs and the files they leave behind. Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers. Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. Click on the Scan button. AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer. After the scan has finished... Click on the Cleaning button. Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[C*].txt) will open automatically. Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply. A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder. Quote Member of:UNITE
